I would take this game over Diablo IV any day... That's not part of the review but I wanted to get that out there.

ANYWAY!

It was kind of funny when I first got this game because I think back to games like Path of Exile or Diablo and think on how the game is only really a challenge when you reach ULTRA HELL HARDCORE NIGHTMAREXXX mode. Almost like all the people struggling out there in the world wasn't even trying to survive while you just taken down a legion of demons with two crossbows and a battle thong.

It always bugged me.

This game doesn't feel like that at all, I know it does not play like other ARPGs. But boy do I wish others took a page from this game's book to make the world feel threatening. Don't get me wrong, I love the power fantasy of defeating Dominus with two toothpicks and a comically large spoon, but it doesn't really give much weight to his title of High Templar, does it.

Not to say this game is "♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ TOO DIFFICULT" or anything. Just feel like you have to try a bit more than just moving three steps to the side and spamming left click only to make the fight feel dynamic. In No Rest of the Wicked it feels like you have to try a bit more without having to wait for SUPER NIGHTMARE MODE to get any kind of real challenge.

There are some gripes, thing I feel like they'll fix. Sometimes climbing on top of certain surfaces feels like you just turned the game off and switched to Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy but it works rather well aside from some pitfalls (sometimes literally.) I feel like the parrying is kind of off or maybe I'm just REALLY bad at it, which is the more likely case, but maybe others feel this way too. I enjoy the gathering but I can see it being a turnoff for some. Some graphical and sound glitches that pop up and the occasional crash. Note, my PC is on the older side so it might just be me, but something tells me it's likely just some optimizing issues.


Still, only about 13 hours in so maybe I'll come across something I truly hate, but so far I am loving the piss out of this game. Now excuse me, I have a city to rebuild.

I mean, at this rate do I have to even need to write a review? This game is amazing. If you're reading this, get it. You're missing out otherwise.

Yeah, I'd say give it a go.

ARE THE DEVELOPERS OKAY!? This is one of those games that's so large, so well done, and so fun that I feel each sale should go to a personal foot massage fund! Or a WELLNESS CHECK. The game is amazing! I'm at 132 at the time of this comment and I only JUST got to act 2! Give or take the characters I started with friends.

I mostly recommend this! I think it's fantastic and really brings an old-school feeling back to those who can't connect in person.

There are some things that are desperately needed, however.

1: A player-only client of some kind so that people can connect to you without everyone needing to purchase a tool they may or may not use for themselves. Even if this was at a discount that would be preferable. I personally have had trouble finding a group because my normal players, who are otherwise interested, don't want to pay $25 for something they're only using to join a game, not build maps themselves. Right now I'm having fun building maps just for the sake of it (and to practice with building things) but after a while that will get old without players to actually see them.

2: FOG OF WAR. This NEEDS to be a thing at some point. I recommend this game because I have faith the devs will at this at some point. At least I hope! PLEASE add this, it would make a fantastic tool even greater.

Other than these two things it's an amazing tool that can really make a game far more epic! I can't wait to see what they do next~

Game is amazing! Certainly can't wait for updates. The only downside is how long it's taking for the next update but considering how much they've given us to do in the initial release I can forgive that! Next major update coming early next year and I'm excited!

They could have easily charged for this. Especially with FOMO added. They did not... And that is SO cool for a pack of neat assets.

Rough launch but not a rough game. If you're on PS4 or Xbox I can see a reason to complain but from my side at least I've only experienced great performance and fantastic play! Almost everything feels like it was put so much thought into. So much love and care. The game should have been held for next gen consoles but other than that I can't give anything but a positive review for this.

Day 1 with crashes, long ques, and other lists of issues and it is still better than most AAA titles. 10/10
