An extraordinary sequel to Frostpunk, well deserving of attention from those who enjoyed the first game or enjoy city builders more broadly.

This is a really delightful little game which I can really recommend (especially as a beekeeper myself). It takes the excellent foundations of the Minecraft Forestry mod and really expands upon them, developing them in ways which wouldn't be possible in Minecraft alone. It is really evident that the creators truly care about and respect apiculture and the foundations they are drawing from, with some slightly more realistic beekeeping gameplay and with some of the profits of the game going to bee conservation charities. I think as is the game is truly excellent and worth buying, but this will be especially so when it receives some slight further polish. Currently the price tag may seem a little higher than some might expect, but with some of that money going to charity and the small two-person indie development team, I believe it is worth every cent. Particularly as the developers have evidently poured their hearts into crafting this very cute and absorbing game.

Frostpunk is without a doubt my 2018 game of the year and perhaps one of the most influential games I have played in the last few years. I am not generally a big city builder fan but this game and its dlc utterly captured my interest and time when I first played it, primarily due to the phenomenal atmosphere, distinct and rising gameplay challenge, and wonderful setting. Perhaps I am a little biased due to my interest in this period of history but even without that I would say that the gameplay is unlike that of any other city builder through its tight ingame timetable, the value (or disvalue) of human lives, precise resource balance, and the sheer stakes at play as built up through the story. Replaying the game on higher difficulty levels once you get the hang of your first playthrough can feel extremely rewarding, particularly if you set yourself some ethical challenges to face on subsequent playthroughs. With all of the scenarios, dlc, and ingame challenges I see this game as highly replayable and well worth your time.
