The most optimized game I have played since Super Mario.

I had a previous negative review because I couldn't play the game, but I figured it out. People with weaker hardware: 720p Windowed on Low, set application to high-priority, then you can get a pretty good playing framerate and the game still looks pretty good. Hopefully you don't mind the long loading screens, but once you get through that the game stabilizes and runs pretty smoothly.

But you probably didn't buy this game for the graphics; you bought this to roleplay a cutthroat mercenary commander blowing ♥♥♥♥ up, and this game achieves that very well. The management side is engrossing as you balance out the cost and profits of contracts, negotiate C-Bills and salvages, etc... Gradually building up to harder and more rewarding contracts while keeping your company a well-oiled machine.

The customization is pretty awesome. You can go all in with barrages of missiles, lasers, sniper cannons and even flamethrowers. A swift kick to the balls often works just as well. And everything has checks and balances with weight and heat limits. For veterans of the franchise it's probably nothing amazing, but as a newbie I'm currently nerding out of all the toys I can pile on my walking death engines.

There is a large variety of missions, from rescue, capture, steal, assassination, ambush, to straight up pitch battles. There's also a main campaign if you would like to follow that. At first it could be pretty difficult with the amount of enemies they throw at you, with your super rare PPC+++ laser shot off your mech's arm every turn, your best pilots constantly getting hurt. But a lot of time it's just a matter of positioning and picking your shots, and you can turn a previously difficult battle into quite literally pigs to the slaughter. (Hint: Save often)

"A day's work for a day's pay" is how I would sum up my experience so far. Being a merc is a hard job, but it's rewarding in the end of the day. Can't wait for what the devs have planned for the game.
