Early Access Review
Left a friend to watch a coil-head while two of us ventured deeper only to die and watch said friend wait for our return, resulting in his untimely death.

10/10 need new friends.

Update: Game seems abandoned and sadly the majority of issues listed still persist.

TL;DR: If you're expecting the same gameplay fluidity as Mario Strikers then sadly the game isn't there yet. A few minor but very important gameplay issues have to be ironed out before that happens. But that really is it and despite that, if you have friends to play with the game is still a ton of fun.

The game feel and pace mimics that of Mario Strikers very heavily while at the sametime delivering on its own twists like:
  • Hypercurve - Being able to control the balls trajectory once you throw it to a certain extent
  • Hyperforce - Powerup that once you've been hit enough times allows you to send your opponents flying with little to no effort within a small time period.
  • Weapons - An item choosen during character select which depending on field/player can prove extremely useful.

While the game currently only supports 1v1s which consists of two choosen characters for each side, the game really does shine once you have a friend or a party of 4 to play with. A lot of issues outside of some minor gameplay clunkyness mostly boils down to the fact that the game is 1v1 when its made for 2v2s.

The gameplay suffers from a few clunky mechanics like the pass which feels counterintuitive and unreliable. It has a wind up, slow ball speed and its very easily intercepted.
Once you start charging a shot you're committed to it and can for no reason stop or initiate a different action unless you're hit, making it similar to tic-tac-toe that once you figure out the timing for catching fast balls, the game essentially gets "solved" and causes the gameplay to slow down significantly.
Tackles are extremely fun to use while punching feels underwhelming and unreliable. Mainly because the reach and speed is slow contrary to tackles which are instant and fast which also makes it a great tool for moving around the field.

I honestly can't say that I recommend the game unless you have a group of friends to play with, as a solo experience the game is lacking but as a group activity its extremely fun despite its current short comings.
