First off a few words about this particular version of the game, unless you are willing to search a bit for mods the game will look downright horrible, another problem is that it has some graphical glitches from time to time, like for example being able to see interactive objects behind walls but nothing game breaking.

Short review
Is the game still worth playing?
In my opinion, it is, the game has seen a lot of improvements from the first game, things that make it much easier and more enjoyable to play. The story isn't really all that impressive, it is merely an excuse for Lara to travel to a variety of locations. If you like the first game and don't mind the controls you will surely enjoy this if not then I don't think this game will convince you otherwise.
For more specifics keep reading.

Controls
As I stated, in the beginning, the game has seen a variety of improvements the biggest being the fact that Lara has some added movements this time around, I am speaking of course of the ability to do a roll mid-air and underwater. It might not sound like much but that simple change makes combat a lot more enjoyable. It allows the player to jump around enemies that wield guns, to easily dispose of them and you can do a quick turn mid-air to shoot at whatever is chasing you without having to stop dead in your tracks like in the first game. Because of such a small difference, Lara feels far more flexible in combat and once you get the hang of the controls you honestly forget that the game uses tank controls.

Gameplay
Lara has some upgrades in this department as well, first off the levels this time around have a lot more combat than the first game and a lot of enemies with guns, that forces you to approach the encounters differently because you want to keep the guys with guns close since they are hit scanning enemies and will always hit you as long as they can point their gun at you. The melee enemies behave pretty much the same way as before, meaning they will always chase you when they can reach you and try to hide from you if you climb somewhere where they can't reach you.
To accommodate for the new ranged enemies Lara has a bigger variety of weapons at her disposal this time around, which for the most part make quick work of your enemies.
Another new addition is the ability to drive vehicles in some stages, the vehicles sadly are very stiff to control and tend to get stuck in the environment really easily.
Other than combat the game has a lot of platforming like the previous game and some genuinely interesting environmental puzzles.

Presentation
The game is at this point very outdated graphically speaking, but it has clear improvements from the first game from the textures to the better models for enemies and Lara herself.
As for the sound like in the first game it relies mostly on ambiance hence you won't hear a lot of different tracks, the only times you will hear some music is when there is a big action scene or when you discover something. I like the few tracks that are there but they are definitely a product of their time.

So to summarize, I think Tomb Raider 2 is an improvement on most cases and holds up pretty well, there is definitely a lot of enjoyment to be had with this game. If you think that the controls are stiff I would say give it some time and they will become second nature soon enough.
