About me
Hello there!

My name is Emile van Krieken. I'm a Dutch 20 year old guy, currently living in the city of Utrecht, where I study Computer Science.

In my free time I work with a new indie studio called Gilded Games. We formed while working on the Aether Minecraft mod. I mostly did the music on that, but with my newly acquired programming skills I also happen to be coding now. Game Design is another of my interests.

Games
I mostly like narrative focused, experimental games, with my favourite being Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons. If you know any interesting, fresh games, please recommend me!

Favourite Games:
10: Ori and the Blind Forest: Again a game with amazing art. This is by miles the most beautiful 2D platformer ever, with again a great soundtrack, super fluent gameplay and brilliant level design. It's somewhat challenging, but absolutely worth it! The story, however, isn't very strong.

9: Transistor: One of the most beautiful games in existence. The art style is eerie, but asonishing, and the soundtrack by Darren Korb is one of best I know games. The gameplay is very unique, but gets a bit repetitive unfortunately.

8: Minecraft: While I have had many great moments with friends in particular in Minecraft, I mostly love it for the potential it brings to games. I don't think it is the end-all in its new genre, and that there will be another revolution coming in it!

7: The Talos Principle: It's like someone looked at my interests and made a game for it. This is a philosophical puzzle game about Artificial Intelligence, and does a fantastic job handling its topics. The puzzles are very fulfilling too.

6: Hearthstone: My favourite non-narrative game. I was very sceptical when I saw Blizzard coming with this, but it turns out to be one of my most played games ever: The gameplay is just thát well designed.

5: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess: One of the first games I ever played so it may be nostalgia, but this is such a gorgeous, mysterious game that leaves you in wonder everywhere you come.

4: Tales from the Borderlands: Funniest game you'll ever play. Going in with pretty low expectations I was again overwhelmed by Telltales magnificent writing. They took all the freedom in the Borderlands universe to develop a game that keeps you on the edge of the seat, hysterically laughing (or crying) at all times.

3: Fez: Fez is a crazy game. It's a shame that most conversations about it are about its creator, because there is so much to be found in it. While I usually dislike neo-pixelart, here it is done in such an unique way that I can't help but bawl at it. The puzzles are really refreshing and require you to think in many different ways. And the soundtrack, oh the soundtrack! The chiptune combined with the ambient drones make it its own, unique thing. Disasterpeace created my absolute favourite soundtrack here.

2: The Walking Dead: Season 1: The TellTale game series are all some of my favourites of all time. While the gameplay is certainly lacking, they're the only games outside of my number 1 that make me truely connect to the characters on a deep emotional level, and make me feel truely guilty about my decisions. TWD 1 especially had amazing writing, and the ending left me in a very weird state for days.

1: Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons: In my humble opinion the most artistic game ever made. It is insanely subtle, but oh so, oh so damn brilliant in what it does. It manages to tell a simple story in such a way that the ending comes in as a huge emotional bomb and it does this purely through genious gameplay design, which is something I can't say I've ever seen in a game before. The aesthetics of it also have to be mentioned: The world is gorgeous and of a huge scale, and the music is beautiful too.
