I hurried between sagging wooden cottages as the sun started to set on Bolotky Village. Searching the remaining unchecked houses for any old salvage to make my trip worthwhile, I could feel the light of day burning out. To get home I would need to hike back through the Pervomay Route - a gruelling gauntlet of anomalies and atrocities that I had managed to avoid on the journey here - in perfect darkness. Through my mind raced only a few alternatives: perhaps I could push on through the village in the hope of finding a bed to rest until the morning? An optimistic fantasy. If the return trip through a familiar area would prove difficult without the comfort of sunlight, what hope would I have to survive, stumbling through uncharted lands in such conditions? Maybe, then, I could simply wait out the night. Prop myself against the corner of a windowless room, rifle pointed at the doorway until the break of dawn.

Then I made recalled the reality of my hopeless situation. I pulled out my map. There, displayed on the series of Nixie tubes that formed a working clock. 5 hours, 28 minutes, 40 seconds. The Tide was coming. Not a bed, nor four sturdy walls would help me once the Tide came. I didn't want to think about what could happen if I wasn't back at base by the time that clock hit zero.

Flinching, palms wet, I breached the last house. Frantically, I scanned a room, peering through the narrow light of my torch. Nothing but a can of preserved pineapple chunks. All this for a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ fruit snack. I left, and my stomach turned. Night had set. I could see silhouettes creeping up from the horizon. Were they the horrors, or just echoes of the past? In that moment I could have snapped the grip of the Makarov pistol in my hand. Wiping cold sweat from my brow, I steadied myself for the long, harrowing night.

It's amusing to think that I could have missed it. Anyone could have. A forgotten fencepost nestled just behind the treeline. As to why I even bothered to investigate, I cannot tell you. But thank God I did. As I started down the path, I glanced upon a sign. It read:

"Perchorsk Radius Outpost"

Home. I let out a long, relieved sigh. This shortcut must have been trawled by my priors. I pushed on. Not long now. I will be home. I will be safe. Free from the horror, and the fear, and the death.

Until tomorrow, that is.

It's a fiver for the entire RDR2 map and quite a few ways to have fun around it. Played a fair bit on PS4 - definitely worth the cheap entry price if you don't mind a little grind, more so if you have a friend or two to experience it with.

Really great game, fantastically made (in some aspects,) but the game-breaking save bug left me a little salty.
