A masterpiece like the first game. I could write here a 1000-word essay, but that is enough. If you crave an intimate, immersive, deep experience, with challanging combat, and stunning visuals and audio, this is for you.

One word - Masterpiece. Played hundreds of games, with dozens truly great titles, but this one will remain in my heart as one of the best experiences in gaming, easily my top 5. A truly unique and special game.

Writing this review after going it second time, with years inbetween playthroughs, as a preparation for the sequel.

This game makes me hate it. Deeply. So many design choices that exist only to troll and annoy the player. The real-time harvesting, that makes you lose crops because too much time passed when you weren't playing. The moronic side-quests that are mostly just fetch quests, some with rare random drops, or absurd rules included. The lack of proper fast-travel, in a game where magic exists. The bland, in best case scenario, and frustrating in worst level desing, with copy-paste corridors in dungeons. Even in the main story there are parts (like following the slow walking npc girl in the desert) that exist only to be a waste of your time. Some people claim that this is intentional as some sort of pseudo-intellectual commentary (on what? beats me). If that would be the case it would be moronic and pretentious. But in reality its just lazy, ♥♥♥♥♥♥, low budget design. Cutting corners wherever it's possible.

If you want to have fun with this game DO NOT ENGAGE IN ANY SIDE-CONTENT. Focus only on main story, which is actually ok, with some pretty good writing here and ther. I'll probably finish the game later, when I'm less angry with it. The devs should eat a cake made of literal ♥♥♥♥ for making this "remake" the way it is, instead of what the game it could be, if treated with love. And also for keeping Automata broken for years on PC.

Some good ideas and koncepts, nice style, but overall most of the time a pretty mediocre gameplay, with a lot of jank.

Very good, mature story, with very well written characters, (especially the main duo) set in a beautiful, dark and unique setting.

This game doesn't deserve the low scores it's gotten, though I can understand that some were frustrated with the mouse/keyboard controls. I've played with a controller and had a blast! Played all the earlier entries of the Anthology, as well as The Quarry, and I've got to say this is probably one of the scariest of them all, if not the most scary and tense, at least considering how scared my niece was when we played this one in Movie Night mode.

This is be no means worse story than the other games, so if you are unsure if it is worth playing, be unsure no more. It's got some new, cool gameplay ideas, though admittedly, the platforming was a bit too much, and may be boring on subsequent playthroughs. Still, walking through dark corridors with a directional microphone was one of the best moments in the series.

Don't let the reviews fool you, it's a pretty mediocre game, and the co-op is pretty awful for the second player due to playing on one screen - this combined with the fact that the second player moves slower (for some unknown reason) constantly makes them get left behind, out of camera bounds. Also, the story barely makes any sense and is very barebones.

On the plus side, it captures the 90s "feel" kinda well and the sound design isn't the worst. Also, some of the mechanics were probably innovative at the time (like ducting flashlights to guns; the crap thing being you can't unduct them to use a better flashlight - the second game completely dropped the flashlight mechanics, which was a good move).
