If you liked the original game you will like this game. It is pretty much the same with improved graphics and more details. Some might say this is too little to justify a remake but in my opinion this is just fine. And you should not forget that this is the first time PC gamers get the chance to play the game since the PC version of the original had nothing to do with the console version which this remake is based on (I was super disappointed and it was one of the reasons I got a PS2). Alot of the things professional review websites criticize have to do with the original game. And though it is true that some features are outdated the developers never claimed to improve or modernize anything. In fact it was pretty clear that they were trying to recreate the original game as close as possible. And in my opinion they succeeded. I feel really taken to my childhood playing this gem. The original was beloved by fans and they loved it for a reason. It is just fun to play.
Now to be honest there are 3 little things that bug me a bit.
First of all the movement and animation feels a bit slow and dragging... Now I don't know whether it was like this in the original, it's been a while since I played it.
Secondly, you have to collect shiny objects and when you collect them they kind of fly at you as walk past them or so... this also seems to be a bit slower than in the original and sometimes I'm confused whether I actually collected the shiny objects or I didn't. I'm sure I'll get used to it after playing a bit more but right now, I'm still confused every now and then and it pulls me out of the experience when I'm like "wait... did I get that one?".
And last but not least there seem to be little bugs, and animations missing (e.g. teleportation box) and I think the original was a little bit more forgiving when you land in goo.
And I have to emphasize that these are just small things that really don't take away from the experience. I still have lots of fun playing this.
And since the game is rather cheap I think you get a great game for what you pay.
If you like Spongebob, if you liked the original, if you like a fun 3D platformer... get this game!

I've played this game now four times and I always finish it crying like a baby. This is such an emotional story and game. Though the art style may trick you into believing this game might be for kids I can tell you it isn't. Some of the subject matter in the game is very dark and serious. The music its fantastic. The gameplay is interesting and creative but not too complicated or deep. The game is rather short and can be finished in under three hours so it would be best to play the entire game in one sitting like you would watch a movie. The controls might be a little clunky for today's standards but they still work very fine.
This is the kind of game I would recommend everyone to experience and for me it will always have a special place in my hear... it is a little gem in my opinion.
