Sooo, after a couple of hours here is a review of the game... Gameplay is good, better than in the last one but still buggy at times (especially against bosses)

The nemesis system is fun and making your army passes the time if you are bored. Sieges are kind of easy though.

The biggest downside to the game is two things the stupid pay for loot ♥♥♥♥ and the plot.

The pay for crates problem is pretty much self-explanatory... you pay and get random ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

The plot is more of a problem for me because it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. about 90% of this game's story has the consistency of your average fanfiction... Characters make bad decisions, the rings make no sense and not even the already existing characters from the lord of the ring are being used correctly... never thought Sauron could be an idiotic excuse for a bad guy...

The story is being sacrificed so talion can have a couple of cool guy moments and the much more interesting characters the orcs are proving to die quicker than last time. At this point, I would rather see a game where orcs battle for dominion over Mordor than any of this other ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

Still, the plot might be weak but you get a nice hack and slay game with beautiful graphics, a great nemesis mechanic and singing orcs...

great game, good price. If you loved legion tower defense you will love this.

edit 1: After a great launch the playerbase has been constantly dropping slightly, the devs are working on more content and have improved the game a lot. Ballsy changes to the meta and the introduction of new ways to play have been keeping me on edge.

Just when I thought the game could use a bump they announced a sale, good idea and direly needed. I hope the next faction will come soon and more players are drawn in by the game. I still love to play the game and would recommend it to everyone that likes this sort of competetive strategy type.

I have not regretted buying it and won't regret it simply because I already have gotten a lot of fun out of it.

Great game, a good way for a follow up game since both versions are linked and you can play with both player bases in pvp. The PVE content is a nice addition since it requires fewer players then a normal one.

After the recent humble bundle the player base has increased to 3.5k and finding a game is easier than ever. Great game and the developers are actively playing with the players listening to feedback and working on a crossplatform system...

I always enjoy a round of GoI and the community is nice and supportive.

So, are there things still wrong with this game? Yes.
Is it worth buying if you are a city builder and survival lover? Yes.
Does it need more content and hopefuly multiplayer at some point? Yes

The terra forming ability is nice but ruins the looks of your settlement (Worth it in my opinion). The AI has certain situations it cannot work with, people starve next to barns filled with food because they will only eat in their own home... making a long rework of their living area difficult and lethal if they forgot to eat before you start.
The other greater problem is the gender diversion... I managed to get a village with 36 people... and exactly seven of them were female, two of them under the age of ten... not cool

The hardest strategy game I have ever played... and without a single drop of blod being shed due to war... Every birth is a small victory and every death a defeat. Seeing your settlement grow and prosper has been more fun than any battle in total war or supreme commander.
To everyone looking for a challenge, try this game, building a city has never been harder or more rewarding.

Me and a friend tried to get this to work for about 40 hours... the entire time the game refused and we never got to play. Then one day, just suddenly decided it was time for us to play.
The whole not working thing made it so much more statisfying when it actualy did work that I rate this game a 10/10.

Would definetly buy this again...

factions play differently from each other making for great replay value. Campaigns are well made. Dwarves have a book with the names and towns of everyone who ever pissed them off... like ever... they carry grudges waaaaay to far.

well designed units and lots of different tactics to be tried, heroes make for a nice change since these badass mofos can change the tide of an entire battle.

Magic is implemented well and not overpowered... maybe the count suckula is a bit heavy in this regard but then again their starting units suck balls.

Orc's go to Wargh! and get really pissy if they dont fight which makes for a nice dynamic.

Humans... well they kinda suck at everything in the beginning, but the longer you play the more powerful they get... and they also replicate like rabbits with the convederation option making them dangerous enemies...

Chaos... well if you ever wanted to play a half dragon called Suneater and lead demons and 3m tall heavy armored barbarians into slaughter... look no further.
Their horde mechanics are as interesting as well thought through(while they have insanely powerful units they cant stand next to each other on the campaign map without bleeding troops.

all in all the only thing i miss in this game is the settlement battles (castles are there alright but smaller settlements are not). Nothing major in my opinion but something they could have done better since defending these little settlements is something you will be doing a lot.

Imagine civ 5 would be actually pretty and set in a fantasy world with better ressources and less technology.

The game is quite different from civ but close enough to be compared to, it takes a while to get used to it but once you have the hang of it you will be entertained for hours.
The different factions each play unique and make for high replayability, the combat system is not to my liking however.
Overall this is a very comlicated and gorgous looking game, i would recommend buying it in a sale if you are slightly interested.
also: the soundtrack is the best i have heard in ages... good enough for me to buy it
