Game is really quite great. Really wish they didn't ape what is quite possibly the WORST part of Porject: Triangle Strategy.....removing random encounters in favor of a "Training" fight that you initiate yourself. Why? Because they're always the same. Same enemy formations on every map, only a handful of different maps. No drops whatsoever. No chance to become stronger other than leveling your capped "Party Level." Speaking of which....why? Why arbitrarily cap team progression. I end up "Training" my team up when the cap increases and then subsequent story battles yield NO experience for my team. New story battles will out-pace you if you DON'T Train after a Party Level increase. The system is dumb. Just let people level their squad how/when they want.

I mean....if they had just randomized the layout and allows you to "Scout" non-town locations rather than "Training" so you can do random encounters on any map, that would have been FAR better.

That's not enough for me to not recommend. The gameplay is a blast. The story is refreshing albeit it tried-and-true. Solid 8.5/10 from me. Just wish they took another stab at the random-encounter and party-level systems.

Early Access Review
Game is a blast; worth playing for sure. My #1 biggest gripe is that you cannot bind attacks (or anything for that matter) to your mouse clicks. Coming hot off the heels of Bloodstained, I really cannot unlearn the muscle memory of attacking with L-click. Hope they fix this.

Is it like Dark Souls? Well, yes and no. It's certainly similar in world progression and difficulty (boy are some fights challenging), but combat and character progression is distinctly new and do take a little time getting used to. But it's worth it! The game, thus far, is a blast! I'd say I'm about halfway through and loving it. It is certainly a worthy entry in the Soulsborne series!
