As you might have noticed from my playtime, this game can take a lot of time, and it will need that investment to be able to grow on you.
This is because starting it up for the first time can be very overwhelming, but that is something you can expect when launching a Paradox game. I really enjoy playing this game for a number of reasons:
  • It represents a very interesting time, and war, that can be experienced the "classical" way, or be done as if happening in a alternative universe. A WWII without Hitler or Stalin, or with a USA that attacks the allies instead of helping them.
  • With every update, the game gets more complex, but that means it gets more interesting. As every country is customized to a more historical accuracy, they are equipped with a means to defend themselves, or more effectively attack/defend others.
  • There is just enough stuff the keep track of, but not to much to make the game feel like a job. You need to keep an eye on your navy, airforce and ground troops, whilst also looking at your countries infrastructure and supply lines. But you don't have to get involved in much else, except for diplomacy or espionage (but those are by choice), which means you can focus on actual strategy when battling on the frontlines.
  • You will gradually get a better understanding of the worlds topography if you didn't have that allready. I myself had a okay knowledge of european countries and parts of the middle-east, but I can now also ace topography questions during local pubquizes when they concearn the american and asian continents. In a somewhat outdated version ofcourse.
  • The point above also somewhat refers to the actual history and the course of events during the second world war. Mainly what roles every country played and what happend on the other side of the world whilst Germany was busy in europe. Which again is, in my opinion, very interesting.
  • And last but definitely not least, the mods are amazing. If the vanilla assets are starting to get dull for you, there are plenty of awesome creative mods out there, installed easily through the steam workshop. (Mods such as "Kaiserreich" and "The Great War")
If you have read this far, thank you, I would like to recommend this game. It can be expensive to some, so if you don't have much of a disposable income, I would advice looking elsewhere. The same goes for time. But if you do, get this game and enjoy, learn and blow as much ♥♥♥♥ up as you can.
P.S. Playing a fascist country, or becoming one, is probably the most fun :P (Unless you're a filthy commie ofcourse)
