This game is very alluring at first, nice look, neat idea, nostalgic feel. But once you start to play and realize thart the ENTIRE game revolves around LUCK and almost no skill at all, it looses Fun Factor real fast.

If you like Card based games, where Luck will trump skill and deck stacking almost every time, dig in.

If you long for those rare gems of games where luck and skill are equal partners in the fun..... Pass on this one.

*Should have waited and played a few more hours before tossing the Devs expansion money. But the early game is not nearly as luck dependant, and gave a false sense of gameplay.*

Early Access Review
Tired of Ult's deciding 90% of every fight?

Let me start off with I do own, and have played a LOT of Overwatch.

Paladins is much more fun and rewarding, IMO, then Overwatch in some key ways which I will go into below.

1: Paladins is not ALL about Ultimates and Ultimate Timing. Your shooting, sneakiness, and other abilities are much more important and play the major role in deciding which team will win an engagement. I think a lot of folks feel like I do, in that the Ultimates in Overwatch are TOO game defining and match decisive. Paladins' Ultimate abilities are a lot more in line with the rest of a characters abilities, and will give you a good boost, but won't Team Kill the other side with a single action.

2: Paladins rewards intelligent play and alternative play styles JUST as much as Killer Aim and Flick Shot Mastery. Being a skilled harrasser/flanker can have a real effect on the opposing team, beyond just sending them to Respawn. Disorientation, Traps, and Misdirection are all here.

3: Head shots and hit-box issues are no where near the problems they are in OW. Many heroes have some version of Healing, Stealth, Movement, or Area Denial. Used with guile they are fun and totally solid ways to help your team win.

4: The Card System and Buy ups during games. These allow for some very different play styles and strategies, even from the same hero from game to game. It adds a lot of depth, mystery, and unpredictability to games..... ie.... FUN!

Pros:

- Truly Free to Play, and no Pay to Win. Most skins are decent, Overwatch has better graphics and skins/models.... But Paladins is pleasant on the eyes and a lot less loot box frustration to get what you want.
- Intelligence and Tactics on much more equal footing with Shooting skill.
- Card system is a lot of fun, and allows for some big differences in play styles within a hero.

Cons:

- A lack of really unique and fun skins..... but this is something easily added into the game in the future. Much better to have a solid game now!
- No In-Game voice chat. Makes team talk more tricky..... but it also keeps folks from raging abuse on each other.
- Chat box is inaccessbile as soon as game ends.... no way to tell your team Awesome Work, or ask about teaming up or adding friends. (You can try to add them blind from social screen, but its nicer to ask first.) Again, this also prevents a lot player abuse when your team loses, so another almost Pro, Con.

tldr:

If you have fun with Overwatch, but feel that the Ultimates are just TOO MUCH of a deciding factor in a game, and wish your own skills made more of a difference..... give Paladins a try, you won't be disappointed.

EDIT: 11/6/17

The game has changed a lot since launch. Hi-Rez isn't taking cheaters to task, and they are pretty rampant, for a competitive game that is not cool.

They release new characters unbalanced, and without thought to how they will disrupt play. Change can be good, but in this case its chaos and Flavor of the Month on crack.

Starting to really feel like its morphing into a pure money grab, as they realize they aren't getting a significant share of Overwatches player base, those they get they are targetting for $$.

It was fun at first, and the idea of rewarding skilled play over Ultimate stacking was right on, they have lost their way. So I have to change my vote to a Thumbs Down. GLHF all.

They are charging us for DLC, that should have been in original game, even afte we paid for Early Access, with future DLC should have been included. Especially cheese DLC of just "Basic" races from MOO2

Just wow....., wish I could take back my Early Access money.

This is the closest you can get to the "feel" of tabletop role playing from a MMO. None of the silly Kill X of Y creature quests, they are all story based. Three cheers for the return of intelligent gaming!

Well worth a try. Simple review

I recently came back to Warframe from a rather long hiatus, and WOW, the game is so much MORE now. If you played it a while ago, I really advise taking it out for another spin and getting hooked again!

This game is a mildly (grindy) gem, hidden here on Steam. But the grind is action packed, fun, and filled with tense moments of doubt. These challenges are overcome with skill and teamwork. This game is one of my favorite team/solo games. The missions have elements of CTF, Survival, Escort, Espionage and Exterminate/Assassinate, depending on the mission parameters. The different worlds offer variety, and the Archframe missions are a wanna-be mecha pilots joy.

Pro's-
-Amazing graphics, killing in space never looked so glorious!
-Fast paced gameplay, and fairly quick missions. Good for small or large time kill.
-Highly customizable gear by modding makes each player pretty unique.
-The boss fights are always a blast!
-Great community, join a guild right off for help and support! Teamwork is fun!
-Easy to pick up, takes some time and skill to master all the game has to offer.
-PvP is brutal, but I suspect once you get good at it a lot of fun.
-Space Ninja Mecha-madness!

Cons-
-Try to avoid running the same mission/world over and over, it can feel stale even while your reaping rewards. Take advantage of the large variety of mission types and settings!
-Avoid buying gear from the Marketplace, the player Trade channel often has the same (or better) items for much, much less, and make use of warframe.market.

I love 4X games. I loved MoM, and bought this game pretty much as soon as I could pre-purchase it to support. Finally decided to really give it a solid try (been playing Age of Wonders III) for a new flavor.

Started a game. Got lucky, Gold Mines and Wild Game x2 in my starting area on easiest difficulty setting. Crnked out a Granary and Marketplace and then built 2 settler units to expand my empire.

2 turns out from my dinky capital, both units disbanded due to lack of Gold and/or Food. No matter how high I cranked up my taxes, I could not even support them getting the 5 or 6 squares out to found a new town.

This to me is a ridiculous level of challenge? I may be wrong, but damn sure don't see why I would spend more time with it at this point.

Meh.
Good for the storyline quests, and the ability of fellow players to make modules for you to play. Lots of great gaming in that.

BUT... in a world of mmo's, this one makes you feel totally 'cookie cutter'. Everyone in your class will usually be wearing the exact same gear as you, just colored. Itemization and character customizing is scant, imo.

So look at this as a great way to get some good RPG Storys, solo. There is some crazy good talent in the player base making modules!
