I had hoped Bioware/EA would have fixed this issue by now so I bought it, nope! this subsciption though steam has been broken for nearly a year, I don't know how that's not illegal.

I really want to like this game because it's a more modern version of empire at war with a 40k spin but I just can't. The mission design in order to throw difficulty at you just adds very strict timers to most of the missions, making you lose missions constantly by just a couple of seconds. Your ship ai is terrible and if your'e not playing the game in slow mo they will easily get rammed or shot to oblivion. I do enjoy the story and characters, I just wish you didn't need to slog through so much.

Thrones of Britannia is a great step back into the historical setting for Total War, however If the Warhammer Total war games were your first in the series you may consider it a step back.

I've been a fan of the games for a long time now and have put thousands of hours into the better ones and like Total War in the past, this new one is full of fun but also frustration. Now, the state of the game is in a much better starting point than Rome 2 had, with much less noticeable bugs and lag, but it still has issues (mostly on the campaign front).

Pros: Detailed full map, a great representation of 9th century England full of towns, cities and landmarks.
Accurate historical names of people and locations, can make things confusing, but fun for history fans.
Great figures like Alfred and Guthrum to battle it out.
Unique factions, not as much as Total Warhammer, but more than Attila
Voice acting is really good, love the different accents.
Fun melee combat with importance on the shield wall.
Finally added a supply meter to armies, adding to the realism and difficulty.
Food is now shared between the faction instead of just a province.
Troops don't start at full strength, making patience much more important and defeat much more costly.
Garrisons are only located at cites making towns defenseless, because why would a tiny town have a huge army?
New loyalty system requiring distribution of estates to generals and governors to prevent revolt.
Bonuses for different factions that dramatically change the playstyle.
Allies are actually helpful and will attack if you ask them too.
Faster load times between turns.
Levy armies are back.

Cons: Rebels! Rebels everywhere. by turn 70 a quarter of the map was made up of large rebel armies in little towns.
Refusal to vassalize even in utter annihilation. very different than how it was marketed or happened historically.
Armies move about 15 miles in 3 months, slower than any other game, It's so slow! So Slow!
Missile units are useless even in factions that specialize in them.
Vassals are near impossible to maintain.
Not a huge variety in unit types/ very similar units.
Changed happiness level to more of a guideline than an actual number.
Constant pop ups about destroyed factions, relates back to the too many rebels.
OP armor for upgraded armies.
Still uses crappy ally attack system of only targeting a faction instead of settlements.
More likely to win by auto resolve taking away from combat.

Thrones is a fun edition to the series that takes a lot in from the past four games while adding a moderate amount of new content, It is nowhere near as much of a change as Total Warhammer and feels a lot like previous games. It will require some patching but in time I can see this standing as a quality game for the Total War series.

Bought the 40k series on sale a bit after the Dawn of War III to see what all the hype was about, and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥! this game holds up well in 2017. Interesting story, badass units, fast gameplay, and decent graphics for the time. One of my new favorite series.
