Solasta is a surprisingly good game for what it is. The 5e Ruleset works pretty well in video game form and it has a decent enough story to be enjoyable. It is admittedly a bit clunky at first but its something you get used to over time. The nicest part in my opinion is that it works as you expect it to work. If you're familiar with the D&D Fifth Edition rules you'll be familiar with how the mechanics, spells, and gameplay works. With both the base game and Lost Valley DLC, you're likely going to get at least sixty hours of gameplay, with the Community Patch Mod adding further longevity.

While the game is solid overall, the character creator is a little lacking. There are only two voices for both male and female characters, with a third gender neutral voice option overlapping both. With a party size of four, it can be a little jarring if you've made a group of warrior nuns, a party of angry dwarves, or other gimmick parties, in which their voices overlap.

While the overall aesthetic of the character creator is somewhat subpar, the rest of the character aspects are pretty well done. Nine backgrounds, almost all the standard 5e classes, a good selection of subclasses, a nice variety of races, feats, and more give you a lot to make your character feel unique to you.

As a final note, I've seen some other reviews in which they state the voice acting sounds underwhelming. Personally I would have to disagree, as while the voice acting isn't award winning, it sounds like what you'd expect from a group of friends sat around a table taking the game far too seriously and getting into their characters. It's not fantastic voice acting, but it's very charming and grows on you if you look at it through the lens of a tabletop game.

Overall Solasta is a fun game with a good amount of replay value, content, and customisation.
