Solid roguelite. There are issues with it, but the tight controls and fun variations on how to play skull to skull keeps it fresh.

Before I begin this review, I just want to share my admiration and appriciation to the devs at Cellar Door Games. Without the mastery they put into their game, we would not be blessed with what we get to experience now. Thank you for breaking beyond the expectations that I thought were indescribably high.

Rogue legacy 2 is a masterclass in the rougelite genre. I would say it should be a standard for all others to follow, but the bar has been set astoundingly high. In almost every possible way, the game succeeds. I will give my thoughts on each aspect of the game in a dedicated section below.

Story
The story of RL2 is a grim, depressing, and fascinating tale. It tells of a once prosperous land become decrepit and dark. Each character, minor and major serves to enhance the experience. What I found especially poignant is how each boss, is directly tied to the story, with each having rich histories and effects on what would become the area the player ventures in. For each, you can see flaws, ambitions, regrets, sins. It gives each encounter with the boss a personal feeling of understanding.

Gameplay
The gameplay is masterfully executed. Never did I feel as though I had been cheated by a wonky hitbox or a stupidly broken enemy. Each class is distinct and brings something new and fun to the exploration. The Gunslinger is a mid-long range damage dealer, The Barbarian is a beast at close encounters, The Duelist is a swift and rewarding glass cannon. Each class has a trait that lets them be their own.

Music
The soundtrack of RL2 is immaculate. Like the story, the music is dreary and dark but has a sense of exploration and intrigue. Each boss has a bespoke track that fits beautifully with their character and history. The best example being Estuary Namaah, a chilling waltz that creates a sense of depth within the battle.

Artstyle
An issue the first RL faced was the stigma of pixel graphics. RL2 breaks this by having a distinct and timeless artstyle. The mix of 2 and 3D art is implemented seamlessly, to the point that nothing looks out of place. All assets were carefully and masterfully to give each area a unique presence.

Comedy
The game is just a feel good time. Constant small jokes and funny lines of dialogue and descriptions allow for an experience that will leave you charmed. This works in tandem with the artstyle. What is most impressive is how the game keeps the light and heavy parts of the game separate, never clashing.

Conclusion
Buy the game. I fear this review is lacking in what I wish to say, but the sentiment remains. Rouge Legacy 2 is a champion among Rougelites. It has quickly made its way into my top 10 favorite games of all time, and is quite possibly in my top 5. At a time where triple a games at increasingly high prices continue to disappoint, Rogue Legacy 2 is a beacon.

Seriously one of the best multiplayer experiences out there. Great writing, game play, story, and characters.

The first chapter of the game is the weakest part of the game. once the player gets to Santuary, the game ramps up and really becomes the best versions of the game.

Each class is unique and fun to play as, giving this game great replayability value. Find some friends, get the game and enjoy some solid multiplayer time.

Not much can be said about this game. Simplicity and great gun play.

Each character is unique and lovable (Except for spy. they can burn)

I don't know what to add. just try it out

As a clown and a criminal I can confirm that this game is extremely accurate to reality.

A solid game with enough content to keep you invested for a long time. Dont expect a deep storyline or good writing. I find that the sometimes odd and awkward voice acting adds to the game and its odd charm. Solid gunplay with various types of styles for all kinds of players.

Early Access Review
This feels like a free flash game. for 10 bucks this is overpriced. 5 dollars woud have been more accecptable. and I know you could say its early access and its unfinished, but look at brawlhala its free, multiplayer, and early access. the graphics arnt anything to write home about either. If it had better controls, less ugly and odd graphics, better online, and was 5 dollars less I would rate it pretty great. but for now Its below a 5/10 for me
