Mostly played around on the first one - never really got that into it as the story didn't pull me in.
The sequel is great. I'd recommend you start with one of the pre-made characters and role play your way through as them before you consider making an original character though.
Fun combat, lots of choices, lots of customization of your team... everything you'd hope from a modern day Baldur's Gate.

Recently returned to this after trying Divine Divinity and Pillars of Eternity.
Maybe it's the nostalgia of it all - but it still feels like a great game. I'd definitely recommend getting it, and the sequel Throne of Bhaal (which is a huge improvement) if you're a fan of isometric RPGs
