This game is brilliant.

It is exactly like I remember Winning Eleven years and years ago - hard as balls, challenging, fluid action, no mechanical (or very few) set animations.

This is better than FIFA by about a galaxy order of magnitude.

Edit: ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, superstar is hard.

I really like this game.
Conflict of Heroes is a REVOLUTION for the wargame board game hobby, and if you lack an opponent for a nice face to face sitdown, you can fire up this game and play a quick battle.

Small scenario will take you 15-20 minutes tops to get through, so it is perfect for I want to wargame, but not an idiotic kiddie modern wargame, but I don't have lots of time situation.

Longer scenarios can take an hour or two.

Make sure to turn off 3D models and switch to counters, and switch camera to top-down view and you've got a FANTASTIC tactical WW2 boardgame in your hands.

A sadly overlooked game on the PC, to the detriment of wargame enthousiasts.

Customization is gone = FEELING OF ACHIEVEMENT IS GONE. No decisions to make when levelled.

When playing this game pre-patch, as a new player, I had customization options. A LOT OF CUSTOMIZATION was possible.

I did not min max, I did not read any guides, pure casual.

When I levelled, I checked what loot I had. I adjusted what I used based on two most important things in the loot - the RANK and GRANTED statistics.

I had points to spend in my powers. The Granted items allowed me to have powers which were not unlocked YET in my hero - I could use, say, a power which would unlock at level 12 when I was only level 8.

Super cool concept.

The "plus rank" bonus on items gave me just that - free points on my skills.

So that every level, I had decisions to make.

What items to use, where to put points which I gained when I levelled.

Another thing which was customizable was the Omega System - you had, roughly 50.. 100 (? no kidding) nodes on which I could spend omega points, which were separate from your skill points.

So you had 2 systems intertwined - one with items you wore which worked with your skills you pumped skill points into, AND THEN the Omega system which gave useful / weird stuff, like you could actually GROW IN SIZE when playing the game.

Playing a hero FOR FREE, up to level 10, I could make a hero a summoner, a close combat, a ranged hero..... based on what item loot I snagged. And that was with 3/4 of the powers closed to me as a F2P player!

So many decisions - imagine when you unlock more heroes up to level 60!
Possibilities to tinker, customize, change your builds for each hero you unlocked / bought are endless!

Now?

Now your powers do not have points. You simply unlock 100% of your power at certain level.
There is nothing to do when you level.

Now?

The Omega system is gone. We have an idiotically simple infinity system where you put points into meaningless stats which DO NOT change anything. 0.1% bonus damage, whoopeee.

Also, this is a LIE. As so far I have received ZERO infinity points for playing the game. I only had inifnity points because the devs made old omega points = VERY SMALL number of infinity points.

So, again, nothing to do with the inifinity system when you level, as you do not receive infnity points.

This is on top of combat being slowed down and unfun (combat was hectic and super fun pre-patch).

TLDR
CUSTOMIZATION IS GONE, THERE ARE NO DECISISONS, NOTHING TO DO WHEN YOU LEVEL. There is no hook, there is only grind for NOTHING as you cannot customize your hero at all.

This is a fantastic game.
If you ever wanted to try a strategy board wargame, but were always intimidated by the hobby and the games seemed clunky, the rules too long, the gameplay too boring.... GET THIS GAME.

This game's gimmick is that it sets up random map procedurally generated map, per your specifications. You want 1 AI or 11? You want to play allied with AI, teams, or free for all?

Think of this game as RTS that is turnbased.

Especially with "1 city start" (my favorite), you start owning 1 city/base (cities are production centers) and have to build up units to explore the map, take over other cities and land, and meanwhile tech up and build up your army to be ready for the AI which is doing the same thing.

I am a grognard, I immediately disliked the idea of this game as I usually play historical WW2 games, monsters like War in the East by Gary Grigsby, and I can tell you that I WAS WRONG about this gem. This game is awesome! And the procedurally generated maps work very well, also!

Highly, highly recommended.

I might even write a steam guide to help new players in.

This game is SUPER CHEAP - just get it if you're interested at all in board wargaming with a VERY GOOD AI.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

PS
There are a few scenarios included in the game, build by people/fans, on 1941 WW2 Barbarossa campaign. People still play those online human vs humna via PBEM and then this becomes a proper WW2 game.

Sociopathic, bored players who are in a corporation with virtually unlimited game money made it their mission to destroy new players just starting out the game in high sec.

The loss of a beginner mining ship hurts the new player very much, the loss of a suicide ganker warship does not hurt the sociopath nor his/her corporation at all.

The sociopaths CONTROL how the game is played, DICTATE how this game is played.

In a normal game, the high sec miner would become bored in time and try something new - wormhole exploration, joining a corp, even mining in low sec. If they get ganked there, they would come back for a while to high sec mining to replenish funds.... until they do replenish them and get bored, and then again try something less boring.

This does not occur - new players simply quit the game in droves.

This game is a psychological experiment of total libertarianism/anarchy, and it is a very interesting one.

This game is for either masochists (people who subconsciously like to be victims/hunted) and sociopaths, people who are psychologically damaged, mentally ill, and enjoy hurting others with zero risk to themselves.

CARPAL TUNNEL SYNDROME - The Geam

I will just list all the things which suck in this game. I will get a lot of fanboi hate, but who really cares about 10 year olds?

Note: played with controller on PC because this is a PURE CONSOLE PORT, which means good luck playing with moise and keyboard.

1) Camera FOV sucks.
Camera always finds a way to screw you. When in a major fight, it will find a way put all the action behind a wall or another obstacle.

2) Camera sucks part deux
When enemy super sayan bad buy shows up (more on those tards later), the camera switches to him as he makes a speech (basically says hello). The camera angle then STAYS at this angle and does not come back to its original position.

This is extremely bad (or can be) because it usually is an awkward position, i.e. he shows up behind you and now camera is showing your front side as you're trying to move/run forward

3) Camera sucks trois
You move the right stick to move the camera.

No, am not joking. The camera is guided by the player. It sometimes (but not always!) will sort itself out and do a semi-chase camera. But usually you're struggling to move the right stick to focus the camera as it shifts you behind a giant wall and you're getting overrun by 50 orcs.

HOLY CRAP MORE CAMERA SUCKS:
The camera is usually pointg RIGHT. OVER. SHOULDER.
So the view you get as a player is VERY limited. This gets bad in big furball fights, but is also bad when you're tying to see the lay of the land.

To look up, move your stick up to see what you can climb and what's up there. Great, now you see in your 20 DEGREE vision sphere directly up.

4) Nemesis system is the dumbest boss mechanic in the history of gaming.

This game has many bosses. These bosses level up by killing you - or being nearby when you're killed by 50 orks. Now, lets say that you're having trouble killing a particular type of boss - one who does ranged combat.

You die, and he levels up. That means that he becomes more powerful by defeating you. Since you're having issues killing him, you're gonna have an even harder time now.

He kills you again, and he becomes super powerful. Now you dun goofed - you have a super sayan immortal ranged badguy who takes off 1/3 of your health with his one shot.

And it's not like you can get to him, as he is always surrounded by 50 orks.

Now, imagine that there there are many more ranged bosses...

5) Nemesis system is horribad part dwa

You learn the game, you kill off a boss, and are happy. Then..... you see that, haha, you didn't kill him - he is somehow alive and comes back and he even says that you killed/defeated me but whateva. What the.... ?

6) Carpal tunnel 100% guarantee
This is a button masher. You will hit "X" (attack) roughly 400 times in an hour of playtime. This is alongside other buttons, like holding "A" to parkour everywhere (this is assass cream, LOTR edition). I thought Legolas in LOTR movies movement was inhuman and a bit over the top - our protagonist climbs 200 metre towers faster than he runs on level ground!

7) Boredom
You will kill orks. And kill them some more. And then kill them some more. You will fight super sayan bad guys. Captains. Die and/or kill them. And do it some more.

Actually, that is all you do in this game - you run around and you kill orks.

THAT'S IT.

8) Game prompts - it's hilarious that the game pops up hints right over your avatar's head. Hints is too strong a word - there are three hints. Press "Y" NOW!!!!11 to dodge an enemy attack, Press "A" !!!!!111 to climb (remember, camera angle dependent - you might wish to climb but uh oh, camera is at a wrong angle....) and "Press "A" to dodge!!!11".

Those are your hints. Total brainless button masher.

9) Console port with all that implies

Very jerky controls. When you run, you can get stuck behind a small rock and not jump over it, camera angle dependent. You can be standing right over an enemy and try to execute an jump onto your back and stabby-stabby attack - except you don't get the prompt to do so.

All the camera, FOV, jerky movement - this is part and parcel of the console market for kids' games, and that is what you get.

Who might like this game:
1) Someone who has very strong hands and fingers, perhaps from watching pr0n in a physically active way, may have hands and fingers strong enough to handle this

2) Someone amused by killing 1,000,000,000 orks in the same 3 ways over and over and over...... Because that is the gaem, that is all that you do, kill same orks in same 3 ways forever.

So, basically a perfect game for someone like radbrad, the youtuber sensation.

PS
At least give us a CHASE CAMERA VIEW, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, it would improve this game tremendously.

BUY IT. BUY IT NOW.

The UI takes all of 10 minutes to figure out. The communication, control and command (C3) will take weeks.

This is better than Combat Mission, because while CM is one battle and it's over, this has whole operational campaigns which are DYNAMIC and where you place your troops, tanks, AT guns, commanders on grand map then translates into tactical combat.

So you have both operational and tactical layer.

Brilliant.

I hate card games. I loathe magic the nerdering and the trend of putting card game mechanics in MY board wargames.

I like this little game. It is nifty, with some interesting mechanics. You get MANY different playing factions for free, and you may use pre-made decks, deck of the week pre-made decks or make your own to compete.

I recommend you to try it even if hate card games like magic the blabberfatteningnerdrager,

1) The newbie barrier to entry is rather big. NO TUTORIAL.
There is no tutorial for this game. The game rather assumes that you are a competent BB player and know pretty much all the rules.

There IS NO TUTORIAL FOR MOVING YOUR UNITS, TACKLING, BLOCKING... well, there is no tutorial.

Many (most?) games have a tutorial which show you, with help text, how to.

You watch/play this tutorial once or twice in your life (or more, up to you, until YOU feel comfortable with the UI) to learn the mechanics of the game and then you move on.

But then again, the same mouse action has DIFFERENT results (double clicking on a piece to stand up either stands it up or pops up an extremely small popup where you must click "standup" and not misclick "blitz" which will lose you time as you try to deactivate your piece by fiddling with the mouse so you can click again meanhwile 0:20 left flashes on the screen...

A simple "how to" tutorial with basic concepts for this game such as
* how to make piece active and how to deactivate it and activate another piece -what exactly do you need to click
* how to move
* what are tackle zones and what can happen
* how to play the odds - make the enemy roll more dice (crucial concept this, game is basically risk management)
* pass the ball - how to pass, what are the odds and what are the ranges that you can pass to

2) The matchmaker is the worst I have seen in any other game. Bar none.

Starting up, you make your team (by recruiting players) and your team value (TV) is howevering around 1000.
Teams gain value (again, TV, team value) by skilling up their players/pieces. You skill your piece by getting points for either passing the ball or hurting or killing (yes, it's a thing) an enemy piece.

Teams are balanced to play at their starting TV, but in an open league in the game with hundreds of players, you will meet teams which are much higher TV than yours. Who will kill off your team. And skill up more. While your team will get nothing, because they CANNOT accomplish anything due to the mismatch. And they are player by someone vastly more experienced than you, with many more BB2 games (matchmaker doesn't take player experience into account, neither.

You get incentives which "balance" the game: get extra rerolls (which still fail ALL the time) or a doctor (which may heal your hurt player... or kill him, it is RNG hell).

So basically the vastly superior enemy team skills up by killing off your starter team.

3) No online pause. Game takes, say 40 minutes no breaks... you want to pee? Too bad.

4) Display of crucial information on pieces is horrendous. BB:CE has actual words on player cards which showed up when you moused over a piece. Words like "Block" or "Loner", which you could then mouse over and get a text description pop up.

While I could read with no problem the actual words on player cards in BB:CE, the PIXEL SIZED icons on player cards are very hard to read. I have never seen a smaller icon with crucial information for a player in any game.

5) There is a two minute time limit for your turn. Which I guess works well for people who have played BB as a boardgame and have logged many more games than me but for me, the 2 minute turn is NOT ENOUGH.

I feel rushed, I misclick, if you have animations turned on the camera changes to a player running and/or player attacking an enemy piece, which zooms into the action and gets rid of the overhead view which allows you to see what happened where and pre-plan your moves (which you must do - remember, tik tok 2 minute limit, think fast newbie).

Most people turn off the cool animations - so why have them? Why "upgrade" from BB1 to BB2?

6) The interface is the WORST I HAVE SEEN IN ANY GAME. Let me give you an example - I moved a player with a ball, my thrower, and then wanted to check to which piece I wanted to pass the ball. I moved the mouse over to another of my pieces, and clicked it... Now, by doing so:

I have ended the action for my passer/thrower and activated the other piece... and I am pretty sure I still had moves left on my thrower.

Example 2: To stand up a player in BB:CE, I left double clicked on a piece to do so. In BB2, sometimes left double clicking works for it to stand up but sometimes it does not - and a tiny pop up with "stand up" and "blitz" shows up and you must then click "stand up". Same player action, different results in game.

A fantastic game.

A huge number of different teams who all play differently - and have different abilities and skillsets.

There is a surprisingly deep strategy in this game, and the charming graphics do not detract from the specatcle (I actually like the cartoony graphics of this game much more than Blood Bowl 2 "realistic" graphics).

All in all, get this game, and if it is on sale, snag it at once.
