I just played this for the very first time, and my run was completely blind, and if it's your first time I highly recommend you do the same.

TL;DR - I really enjoyed it despite it's flaws (invisible mouse cursor/minor stuttering - read below for further info). If you like Falcom RPGs and/or Dungeon Crawlers with cool bosses and a shockingly interconnected world, then this is an easy recommend.

Overall I would say this is a kinda unique kind of dungeon-crawler. The combat is a touch clunky initially, but once you pick up some abilities it become surprisingly addictive to blast through areas grinding for money and EXP. There is a little bit of story here and there, but the bulk of information regarding the world you are in is contained within tablets and documentation that you hand off to your companion to translate (which takes a little bit of time).

The BIG things that KINDA detract from the experience are kinda minor annoyances. For instance, if you play with a controller you cannot access every menu with it, you need to have a mouse handy so you can move your INVISIBLE cursor around (you'll know where it is since it'll highlight inventory/shop items, it just takes getting used to getting it to where you need it to be) in order to utilize most of the major menus. Outside of this rather odd (probably port related) design, there are some minor stutters here and there that remind me of the Link's Awakening remaster on the Switch, where you'll be in the middle of a room/area and have a sudden moment of stutter.

These two negatives ultimately did not impact my enjoyment of the experience however, as the dungeon design is simply SUBLIME. I honestly wasn't expecting to wander deep into dungeons only to find myself enter the hub town (it's the only one in the game) from a different angle. Almost reminds me of a certain Souls series in how it interconnects everything, which is super cool and it really gave me a proper sense of scale for this world. Top it off with some of the usual Falcom boss setups (read: fun bosses) and I gotta say I was left satisfied.

It's a relatively short game, but it's well worth your time if you're looking to play a more old-school RPG.

I don't typically give a numeric score, but if I had to, it's a solid 8/10. The invisible mouse cursor in menus was a hassle for a little while, but once you get a feel for it things go pretty smoothly, and I honestly cannot fault the game too hard for the stutter, because I do have a feeling it's just the port.
