This (and to an even greater degree, its DLC, Whistleblower) is an exercise in pants-ruining terror. To be honest, I couldn't play for more than thirty or forty minutes at a time because I would get so tense and scared. I lost track of the number of times I almost ruined my headphone cable by leaping back in my chair. The graphics (while not terribly fancy) certainly do the trick, and the music and sound effects are always superb. Everything about the game (peering around corners, laboured breathing when scared, etc) is designed to immerse you in the experiences of the character. If you like horror games, then you MUST have this in your Steam library.

There are some downsides to make note of; the climax of the main game (not the DLC) suffers from WTF syndrome and also simply goes on too long, plus thematically and atmospherically the game does begin to repeat itself (not too much, mind you). As well, if you don't like jump-scares you should note that there are more than a few, although in my opinion they were rather well done, and certainly not cheap at all.

Long story short, I really loved this game, and cannot recommend it heartily enough.
