It's a really fun early access game shipped as a complete title.
The gameplay is addictingly good, and the classes are balanced *enough* (some take a while to really be good).

I know you don't really come to this type of game expecting a good story, however things like Vermintide and even Left 4 Dead have characters that have interesting banter and *some* growth. Darktide has neither, the voicework is good but there really aren't any characters just archetypes that occasionally speak 1-2 sentences.

The state of the game is very bad overall, here are some of the following issues I've noticed:
- The game softlocks fairly frequently. Things like elevators or doors unlocking just sometimes don't happen.
- Weekly event objectives sometimes are not counted. For example extracting with Grimoires in a mission sometimes does not count toward my weekly total, this happens consistently.
- General poor performance. This is generally improving however.
- Slow loading times, and I have a NVME SSD so it would be even worse on a slower SSD or hardrive.
- Exploitative cosmetic prices, with no way to earn premium currency in game.
- The total lack of crafting, even when materials are in missions and you can take them.

If these things improve I'll change my review, but right now i'd just pass. If for some reason you don't own Deep Rock Galactic play that instead, hell even if you do own it play that for a bit until this game gets fixed.

Very fun to explore the world and find new and unique places. Very calm and relaxing but I wish there was more vocal music tracks from Japanese Breakfast when just gliding around on the bike.

As of this review it is still buggy, not game-breaking however:
- Audio tends to clip semi-regularly.
- Some FPS drops when loading new areas.
- 3440x1440 support kinda works, sometimes UI elements appear in one area but the cursor selects others.
- Generally the game becomes less stable the longer it is running so I ended up restarting the game every other hour or so.

Glad to finally play this game after seeing it announced 3 years ago.

It's like playing Skyrim with a plot that is actually meant to lead the game and not just fade into the background.

Much harder than actual Skyrim which is a bit of a downside for me, because I kinda hate the combat system.
Exploration is as good as the original game, but I wish there was more to explore in the Frostcliff Mountains.
The main story was really good, but not quite as clever as some people made it out to be, but definitely still has some good reveal moments.
The DLC quests in my opinion kinda steal the show, and are the ones that stick out for me as the best in the mod.
Replay value is minimal for me, It's there but you have to like the new leveling system to really want to do it.

Play it it's free. You have Skyrim. I know you do.

Review
This was my first turn based CRPG that I have played, and I loved it.

I played the game on Easy and it kicked my ass more times than not, really only after level 15 could I take on big fights without reloading a couple times. The early game is infuriating, you wont hit any attack, you are very weak, and you are going to have to figure out how to kill 5 enemies by yourself for almost every encounter. But like a battered housewife, I just kept coming back for more. If you can stick it out past Depot A to around level 10 your abilities will begin catch up to your ambition.

That being said their are some downright sadistic enemies, and the game seems to have an infatuation with stunning my character every chance it gets. You do have the power cheese on your side: the classic reality bending power of quicksave and quickload, as well as numerous traps, grenades, and psionics you are going to need to use to stay alive.

The story is good, a classic lost mcguffin plot, but the world building is very good. At the beginning you only get glimpses of the horrors that the Underrail holds, and slowly the game shows more and more of it. The Deep Caverns, the last area you will explore, is spectacular and truly inhospitable. The story has ideas similar to the Metro books and S.T.A.L.K.E.R games, but is I think decidedly more pessimistic.

I lost an uncomfortable amount of time to this game, it's great!

Tips
- Look up character builds, you really can't waste points at the beginning.
- Don't be afraid to use the wiki for some things, directions in the game are not very descriptive and if you get lost or stuck on a quest just look it up.
- Kill the Rat King and get his armor, a low weight +15 stealth armor is amazing for a class that does not put many points into stealth.
- Take Jack Quicksilver's quest at the beginning, when he leaves SGS you cannot do the rest of his questline.
- If you have the Expedition DLC I recommend starting it at level 15, and know there is a soft time limit to the main questline (you can come back to the Black Sea once the expedition is over)
- Gimme Juice
- You can't exit the Deep Cavern until you deal with the mcguffin, Make manual saves often.
- Napalm Grenades exist

Truly an idea that could only be fully realized as a game.
A singular experience, and one that you would be hard pressed to find anywhere else.

This game has little replay value, but I doubt it will leave my mind for quite a bit.
