Intelligent, streamlined platform design. Very stylistic art choice really helps create atmosphere, I love the change in appearance when you jump out of the shadows into the light and back again. The indicators this game gives you are great, elements of interest are subtly pointed out to you without being obtrusive, everything melds so well together. There's a nice range of gameplay playstyles available within any given situation, which really stands in this games favour. Do you want to try and run decoys to distract them while hiding? Do you want to set up traps to incapacitate them? Do you want to creep up close and elminate them one by one? Or do you want to go full Rambo, run and gunning your way through the level? Choice is yours, and all of them can work based on the 'Way' that you choose to take, which give you different benefits (heavier armour, can use more items, have a teleport ability, silent running etc).
Plot is nothing fantastic, but it has some interesting elements to develop as it proceeds, with a nice twist at the end, that had me doing some serious thinking, and I still regretted my choice. That's the mark of a hard decision.

Beautiful, emotional storytelling. It's a story first, and a point and click game second. The game is simply the medium. It's funny, serious, dark and hopeful all at once. A simple concept experienced masterfully, games don't normally affect me but this one struck a chord. The soundtrack is only a couple of very basic tracks, but it is hauntingly beautiful, and deserving of the pickup. In many ways, this game is like a movie experience with the added benefit of your own input and interaction. Visually, it's retro look gives it charm, and it's impressive how much emotion can be conveyed with pixelated animation.

You take the role of a pair of specialists who enter peoples memories, specifically dying people, to generate an experience from them that they express as a dying wish. In a style reminiscent of Inception they dive into the life of John, to fulfill his wish to go To The Moon. They have great chemistry, with fantastic pop culture references and lots of one liners. The story they discover is touched with meaning and emotion. I can't say what makes this game so great without revealing anything that happens, but it brought me to bittersweet tears.

I bought this on a whim, a whim I now very greatful for. It's a truly enriching game, and it will make you cry.

Visceral, action filled and full of the satisfying dismemberment of the poor sods who get in the way of of a virtually indomitable superhuman consumed by a biological virus. It's an open world game in the spirit of the classic 'Incredible Hulk Ultimate Destruction' on the original Xbox. Set in the aftermath of the first game, yet again NYC becomes the victim of a biological apocalpyse set off by Alex Mercer dragging in Gentek and Blackwatch. Mercer infects a soldier, Heller, who develops the powers of his protege as he goes on a rampage killing anything and everything from both sides of the conflict in a quest for revenge for his daughter.

The free roam mechanics in this game are without question the best out of any game I've played. It is simply satisfying to run at superhuman through the war torn streets of New York, leaping up the sides of skycrapers and cruising along them then jumping and gliding high above the conflict. The sense of weight and power you carry without feeling cumbersome or bulky is just nailed, you look and feel like a lithe, dealdly human predator. Story and side missions along with the usual collectilbes are scattered around the map, which is split into 3 seperate parts. While I lost the sense of a large city I got from the first, it let all the elements of the map have personality, which is a tradeoff I'm willing to take.

The weapons and upgrades are disappointedly almost the same as number one with only a few differences. They are all still visually impressive and satisfying, but I held expectations for a more substantial roster of weapon options. The combat and movements mechanics are likewise similar with a familiar set of enemies, with just enough changes to justify its existence as a new game. The Evolved are quite cool though, plus it provides an enemy that plays and operates similar to yourself. The difficulty level is quite easy once you have a few upgrades, the tools at your disposal allow you to ignore or avoid almost all incoming damage sources. My first playthough on hard was very straightforward.

Prototype 2 is not the best game ever. I haven't even bothered to review the story, because there's really nothing to say. It's passable if that, but it does its job in giving you a reason to tear though a collapsing city under siege. There isn't the greatest expansion in concepts from the first game, but enough to add some mild spice. Despite this, Prototype 2 is fun. It's simply fun, the core gameplay is nailed down so very well, fun is all a game needs to be.

Solid addition to the franchise and some cool new additions, but some glaring problems as well. The story and characters is top notch as usual, with some food for thought and philosophical musing. It has some interesting commentary on North America as it is today as well. The combat has some new combos and enemies to try out, muskets being an interesting addition that is handled well. The funnest addition is probably the naval combat, great fun and very atmospheric, can't wait to play 4. The wilderness parkour is incredibly intuitive and natural, it's fantastic how seamlessly and fluidly you travel through the trees, with subtle directional hints that are still easy on the eye. However that's the only real appeal of the frontier, for the space you have to travel to, there is very little to do apart from hunting, which gets dull pretty fast. This is the games primary problem, there is insufficent interesting mid and end game content outside of the story, it is far too grindy and unoriginal. I did not look forward to completing missions in the same way as previous titles and I didn't feel the same incentives from the rewards. Hopefully something to be rectified in AC IV.*Some Spoilers* As with all games the ending is very important, yet for all the build-up and hype that I'd generated for it over all the previous games, waiting to find out finally what actually happens, the word to best describe my reaction was honestly just 'meh'. It had the hint of a rushed finish to it, not that it was bad necessarily, just that it didn't live up to the expectations I had of it. Whether that's simply because I had my sights too high for the series story finale is up to the judgement of anyone else who plays it of course.

Just Cause 2 is massive over the top explosions and free roaming that can blow games like GTA and Saint's Row out of the water for it's sheer scale. If it looks like you could shoot it and make it blow up, you probably can, and you will want to in order to progress the story. The story itself is a satirical caricature of various countries and nationalties that acts as a decent backdrop to your path of destruction and explosions. There's a decent variety of weapons and a large selection of vehciles, although only a select few to gain at will. One of the games biggest highlights is the grappling hook which you can use to connect 2 objects, whether that be you and the cliff you are trying to climb, a goon and a moving car or a high wall, or something absurd like 2 planes in mid air. The hook feels very smooth to control and you can do some impressive things with it. Fully completing every location in Just Cause can be grindy, but its basic formula of causing chaos is so fun all but a tryhard completionist wouldn't view it as a major issue, considering this is a gigantic sandbox. This is your very own island, go blow it up.

Empire Total War is an excellent addition to the Total War Series. The additions to the campaign overview are numerous and multi-faceted, and really add another dimension to the game. The relation system is much more explicitly explained, and the trade system has received an overhaul.

The combat mechanics are much more measured than the melee centric focus of previous titles. Manouvering and positiong for the optimal output for fire is the name of the game here
