Excellent game! But the War of the Chosen DLC is an absolute necessity. It completely changes the "meh" base game and has tenfold faster loading times. Taking on the chosen in their strongholds is super fun. Lots of different missions and the different ways to play them are also very enjoyable.
The overall tactical approach matters as much as the combat, so always keep an eye on the alien's Avatar project and set them back by choosing covert sabotage operations and attacking their factories. Invest in good weapons and armour, and build a guerrilla tactics school early on to be able to expand your squad and retrain your soldiers in a different discipline when needed.
