A co-operative, objective based, shooter for up to 4 players. This game has a skill system with 5 skill trees you can put points into, a Perk Deck system which acts similiarly to class based passives that you would find in other video games, and a weapon customization system with modifications that effect weapon stats. While you can go in guns blazing there are options for stealth elements and a few stealth focused hiests. The number of hiests has greatly expanded since release and as a client all heists are playable for free. However, to host a game using a DLC hiest you must first own the DLC.

*This game is regularly supported both with paid and free DLC content. The paid DLC is not required to succeed in game however a number of viable weapons and weapon options are part of a DLC pack. This game goes on sale for deep discounts multiple times per year on average so if you looking at this review during a sale I'd suggest picking up a few of the DLC weapon packs that interest you, and Gage Courier DLC. Otherwise wait for a sale.

Note: this game has a leveling system and it encompasses nearly everything. Even DLC items can be locked behind a level restriction. However, leveling in Pay Day 2 is extremely easy and rewards are tied to Infamy (Similiar to Call of Duty Prestige) requiring you to level up again albiet with a culmulative exp boost. Infamy is this games only End Game. The first 5 Infamy levels save you points to use on skills effectively making Infamy 5 players slightly stronger as they can Ace 1 additional skill more than regular players. Infamy 6 - 25 only gain special cosmetic masks and more cumulative EXP gains. So as a player you can stop at Infamy 5 level 100 and have the same power level as an Infamy 25 100 player like myself.

All this said I bought this game during a Steam Summer sale w/ all the current DLC at the time for like $20. I come home everyday from work or Uni and I have a group of friends I can play with. I've sunken 600 hours at the time of this post over the course of 2 years. I love this game. It's fun if albiet a little repetetive mission wise but with the amount of customization and build options you can choose to never do the same thing twice in a week.
