Game is dead, i deeply regret my purchase

So, after phasmophobia i have been looking for horror games where i could actually hunt the ghost and by comparison this game looked to be pretty quick paced and exciting. And....i have no idea whether or not that is true. I bought the game during the halloween sale, couldn't try it out for a week and i have spent the past 7 hours trying to actually play the game, there are just, no lobbies to join at all. Every now and then i'll find a few matches ongoing but even if you could join games in progress, essentially every single one requires a password. I tried my luck at hosting my own lobby, even tweaking the settings abit, but even after 30 minutes i didn't get a single person. I would be happy to play with people from other countries or even try to work my way through a language barrier if that was an option, but no dice.

This is a multiplayer only game with no multiplayer.

I seriously doubt i could get a refund at this point given how long it's been since i got to try the game out, but this is just disappointing. I could accept if the game was just bugged or if it had issues but i never even got to try the game out. It feels like this game is made exclusively for people who can afford to buy copies for all their friends, who they just then make play the game with them, if they at least had some kind of automated matchmaking i could try that out and hope to get paired up with people, but no such option exists.

Is the multiplayer horror genre just cursed? I can't seem to find a single game i can play and enjoy aside from phasmophobia.

I was excited to try more games in this genre, when i realized the co-op of this game is subpar at best. Rather than being able to bring up a list of lobbies you can join to quickly play with other people, you have to send people a code to get them to join you. IE : you can only play with people you already know, just joining games with random players is effectively impossible, and even then, getting players to join you may potentially require a LAN setup. I grew up in the 90s and i still didn't do that because it meant having to go to someone elses house. A decent system of setting up and joining lobbies online is NOT optional, it's just not. Speaking personally, none of my friends enjoy horror games of any variety, so the only way i can enjoy them is if i find other people i can play the game with. Just show me a list of all the lobbies and let me join them by clicking on their lobby like we can in phasmo.

I wanted to give it a go anyways but you can only use one item at a time and there is no option to use your flashlight at the same time as other tools. Most of the screenshots show you using two items at once, but there is no way to actually do that in the game, which makes the game effectively unplayable. Am i supposed to use various tools to find out what kind of ghost it is? gee, i'd sure love to do that, but i have to use my ONLY hand carrying my flashlight because if i don't, it's physically impossible to go anywhere because i keep bumping into walls and furniture i can't see. Did the ghost just kill me? well i didn't see the ghost either because it's pitch black.

0/10, if the screenshots show you carrying two items at once, let me do it in the actual game, especially if not being able to do that makes it IMPOSSIBLE TO PLAY THE GAME. If this game had working co-op with lobbies i could join someone elses game and resolve the issue by just having someone ELSE carry the lights while i carried all the tools we'd need to find and exorcise the ghosts. Uninstalled after maybe 20 minutes of actual 'gameplay' (it says 90 minutes played, but i alt tabbed to wash my dishes)

I bought this game when i saw it on the steam front page, it sounded exciting and i wanted to try it out but i got the same "no servers" issue alot of people have apparently been having.

I checked every guide or solution i could find for a fix and applied every one i could and no luck, this is a multiplayer only game with no multiplayer. If there was a singleplayer or bots option i could at least have played that but there isn't one, there's a tutorial but playing that over and over again won't justify the price tag even with the special promotion discount.

Apparently this problem has existed for a long time and alot of people feel the devs don't care, either way i guess they just don't want new players. I had to ask steam for a refund, hope i get it because i can't feel happy about a game i can't play.

I feel like the game itself has something of an identity crisis where it doesn't know what it wants to be.

Lets start with the story, you start off on a beach, theres a larger ship in the distance implying you might have just recently arrived to join the colony alongside the wreckage of another ship just like it which has been sunk. So the premise is already confusing, if you are supposed to be part of an expedition or a relief effort where are all the people who came WITH you and if you are the last survivor of a shipwreck, what caused the shipwreck? Did anyone else survive? Why is this not brought up again?

The game continues to be rather confusing, a few minutes in this girl in a red dress shoots an arrow into a totem urging you to leave before you become "Trapped" as she is, the tone that gets set does not match that of the actual game because two minutes later you run into her in town and she is completely unaware of what supernatural elements DO exist in the game at all. There doesn't appear to be anything actually trapping anyone in this region, anyone who had been there could have left at any time, granted they didn't have a ship to use to return to england but that wouldn't have stopped them from just going somewhere ELSE. After warning you to leave, this girl in the red dress just kind of....hangs around and has fairly pointless conversations with you, if there IS something horrifying here maybe you could tell us exactly what they are and why i should be afraid of it?

They probably didn't do that because for the most part there isn't actually anything there, the only times you'll run into supernatural elements are when you ring a bell, which seemingly turns the world into some kind of alternate dimension where souls exist. Cool i guess but if the only way to be affected by the supernatural is to ring a bell, people could just choose to not ring the bells. When the world is in its 'normal' state all the enemies are replaced with what is very heavily implied to be spaniards, all of whom are in full plate (despite the game being set in the 1600s) and occaisionally, men who are on fire but otherwise just attack you with bows.

Every now and then in page entries you can find on the map there will be hints of foul play from supernatural forces, yet despite being able to communicate with the spirits of the dead to discover what got them killed and why, every single time the reasons for their deaths are always extremely mundane. They all killed each other for the usual stuff, adultery, envy, racism, etc, if there ARE some kind of ancient spirits running amok around here they didn't seem to actually do ANYTHING at all, not to the people who lived here at least.

Despite these difficulties i might have been able to find some interest in the investigative aspect and the mysteries but any time combat happens it breaks my immersion because i have to stop reading in order to fight a bunch of random skellies (going into your inventory does NOT pause the game!). They never improve in terms of how much health they have, nor do they get better armor or weapons or fight smarter so the only way for the game to increase the difficulty is to add MORE of them. This works in the first half but it didn't take me long at all to acquire a host of weapons which kill everything in one or two shots at most. This is compounded by the fact that, at its core the game only really has three enemies in the entire game. There are disembodied floating skulls which chase you and try to punch you, there are these big beefy knights who throw rocks, which might be a fun challenge if the fact that your arrows bounced off their plate was a proper mechanic instead of a random chance based upon the weapon you were using, and then there is an enemy who will run close and try to either stab you or attack you with a ranged weapon. This last enemy is retextured a few times but mechanically they're all identical to one another.

This is more or less true for the weapons too, crossbows and muskets and pistols are all basically the same weapon, they all have a fairly long reload time but do absurd damage, you can throw bombs or tomahawks to keep things interesting but they have limited uses and the lack of threats to justify them just makes them icing on the cake.

I'm almost done with the game and thus far i have next to no idea what i'm facing or why, the combat is a chore that feels tacked on. Mechanically it WORKS but all it does is distract me from what barebones plot there IS. I'm not going forward because i feel a sense of urgency to get to the bottom of a mystery or to save something or prevent something from happening, i'm going forward because its THERE.

Still, i got my copy on sale for like a dollar and the full price seems to be five at most, how much can you really ask for ONE dollar?

I really wish i could recommend this game, but it crashes ALL the time. Boot up the game? crash, get shot at? crash, NOT get shot at? crash. Its extremely difficult to game for more than brief periods due to the endless crashing. I would ordinarily be more forgiving but it happens way WAY too often.

It also takes forever to get any of the outfit unlocks, you only get 100 ingame cash every time you level up but most items cost several hundred so to complete a single outfit you have to go from level 0 to 50, they should increase either the amount, or frequency of getting ingame cash, maybe have some kind of bonus objectives to do for money or something.

To make matters worse, i've only been playing for 16 hours and i've already hit the point where i feel like i've played all the maps because so frequently, you'll end up doing the same map over and over and over again. Every server even if you WIN, everyone else will vote to just do the same ♥♥♥♥ all over again.

If they ever fix these issues i'd be willing to change my mind and say its a great game, the cash thing and the map thing are honestly minor but the crashes make playing the game at all an excercise in frustration, i can't focus on enjoying the game because all i can think about is how i wish another game would come out that actually f****** WORKS.
