Early Access Review
Pretty good game after one playthrough/run. Obviously in Early Access, but there's good bones here for a great game once they gin up more content over time. In terms of gameplay, rather reminds me of Ogre Battle (SNES) mixed with an auto-battler. More polished than most Early Access games I've played.

Looking forward to seeing how much content is added over time. Rather like the quests and the choices that can be made during them, hope that is iterated on and expanded.

You can do a lot worse gaming-wise for nine bucks, that's for sure.

Strongly recommend Rimworld, especially if you're not modphobic. I've been gaming since the Atari as a kid, and Rimworld is easily on my list of top five games of all time. The modding community is AMAZING and the way the creator of Rimworld has embraced the modding community is precisely how video game developers should look at building their games.

If you've played Prison Architect and liked it, you'll love Rimworld. If you want to see if you can handle the art style of Rimworld and the management style, pick up Prison Architect for cheap on a steam sale and then move on up to Rimworld later on.

There's a lot of dumb memes about this game, about making hats out of humans and all sorts of sadistic stuff. And you can definitely play the game that way, but don't let hyped-up goofy teenagers desperate to be funny dissuade you... this is a game you can play maturely and with empathy. Trying to keep your colonists alive, thinking up ways to defend your colony that minimizes risk to your colonists and just doing your best to keep your favorites alive and happy is a great way to play the game.

Dive deep into the Steam Workshop for this game and each playthrough can be drastically different, depending on what mods you enable. Amazing replayability, easy to learn but difficult to master, and a sandbox where you can just zone out to another world. A true gem!

I don't review a lot of video games, been gaming since forever and if a game doesn't live up to expectation, I'm usually pretty relaxed about it. Been playing this on and off since launch, wanted to give them plenty of time to patch out issues before leaving a negative review.

Have played NBA2K on console since the Dreamcast. Why? Love basketball and the series used to be great. This year, decided to change things up and play on the PC to enjoy the game on my ultrawide. Turns out, the game is beautiful on ultrawide, just as most games are that support UW.

If you play this game just to play MyLeague or MyGM, you're probably fine. MyGM really hasn't been changed/improved in years other than adding a pointless storyline, but both modes work fine if you do research into how to avoid corrupted saves.

If you play MyTeam though, my god. What a hot mess. First, one of the big draws of MyTeam for me is customizing uniforms, arenas, etc. Problem? On PC, logos don't actually show up on your uniforms. You'd think that'd be an easy fix, but nah. Since launch, that's been an issue. And they haven't fixed it. They don't care.

But the biggest negatives is by far the lack of anti-cheat/anti-hack on PC. 2K's stupid mouthpiece on twitter said cheating is fine because everyone can do it. Literally said that. And his attitude must represent the company's line, because they do very little to patch exploits and to ban cheaters. People can hit a few keys if they're losing and you get a "error has occurred, gameplay won't be counted" message and your effort goes into the trashcan.

Does 2K care? Not really. They stifle discussion of cheaters/exploiters by installing a sycophant moderator on the steam discussion community for the series who is only there to delete threads about cheating, to censor discussion about it. They'd rather have a toady try to squelch people complaining about cheating than to invest money in an anti-cheat system, to work with the community to identify exploits, and close them. Too much work for 2K.

End of the day, it's a beautiful game on ultrawide and MyLeague/MyGM work fine once you troubleshoot the corrupted saves issue yourself, because lord knows 2K doesn't fix such issues. But if you plan to play any online multiplayer, don't even bother with this game. It is rife with cheaters and ends up being a frustrating experience.
