This game could really do with some optimisation. I have a decent system (not the best in the world), it should certainly be able to run this on a solid 60fps, sadly not.

The game itself is very much a nice mix of call of duty and battlefield.

Literally unplayable - Crashes after ever mission. Random bugs where your ships can't move to any other tiles meaning they are just sitting ducks to enemy vessels that seem to have unlimited range. Lag spikes. Poor camera control. No idea how this has positive reviews.

Just an all round beautiful game. Other survival open-world games have a lot to live up to after this.

This game is awesome...when you're able to connect to a server. Virtually every attempt at trying to join a server is plagued by "Synchronizing to World State"...waiting...waiting...back to server browser, no error message. Having looking into fixing the issue, it appears as though it's been around since 2014 so I hardly think "expect bugs, it's early access" is an excuse. Being able to get on appears to be completely random, sometimes a restart of my computer fixes, sometimes not. Sometimes trying 2-3 times fixes it, sometimes not. Sometimes trying for over an hour fixes it, sometimes not. The fact that this issue (or a similar one) has been around for over a year now is a bit crazy...End of server issues rant.

Ok, so setting the server connection issues aside, what's the game like when you're actually playing.

The game is great, very nice graphics, though some textures could do with a little bit of work. There are a few cases of Z-fighting with walls and textures or buildings (not including the base building objects), though this problem is easy to ignore and forgivable given the early access.

There are a few sound bugs, such as the last bullet in a clip making no noise. There is also an issue with your characters sounds appearing to come from a different location to yourself, so occasionally it feels like you're being followed, when it's just your shadow. There is also the problem with walking on sand or jumping onto some objects, where I'm assume you clip into the object. The game responds by making a noise that sounds exactly like a silenced gunshot, this is the noise the sand makes as well). It is extremely freaky. But again, this is all easily forgivable due to the early access.

The thing that attracted myself and my friend to this game, was the beauty of the base building. I'm yet to build my base, but am highly excited by the prospect of the unique bases and by the size of them and by the beauty of them. The main reason why we are having such difficulty in building a base, is due to the fact that the recipes appear to be so incredibly rare (even the basic ones) that it is become a tedious grind to try get them. Whenever we actually manage to get into the game, we spend almost 99% of the time searching through houses to try find some. So far we have found perhaps 5 unique recipes (all basic). Granted we are fairly new to the game but we have branched our search out to each of the towns. The lack of recipes could be due to our searching of similar styles of buildings and once we find more areas where they spawn, we may in fact realise that they are more common than we expect. We have noticed that they are hidden very well in some cases...such as amongst random non-interactable pieces of paper on desks and such. (I would very much appreciate if anyone has tips on finding them).

The vehicles are a little buggy, very nice, but buggy. Some of the bugs are cause for great amusement. Such as the quad bike/atv. Whilst driving it, it seemed as though the front wheels constantly get stuck and so the speed constantly fluxuates and makes it difficult to even reach any form of consistent speed. So...I was driving the quad, my friend in the jeep. Given the speed difference, I was leading (as it's easier for him to slow down, then it is for me to speed up). The bike randomly locked up, and he rammed into the back of the bike. He was then propelled over me, spinning through the air like a frisbee. I (on the bike) was flipped over onto my side) Where the laughter begins as the bike tries it's best to drive, whilst make no progress. He then attempts to use the jeep as a ram, to nudge the quad back onto the four wheels that it was built with. This produces more spins and more laughter. I decide to try turn the engine off. At which point the bike, mystically begins to self-right, all four wheels touch the ground. At which point I scream out "WOOHOO It's done it". At almost the exact same time, the bike then random continues the self-righting...to end up on the other side. At which point crying with laughter begins. Finally I decide I've had enough, get off the bike. And by simply pressing to get back on it...it self-righted (properly). Again we laughed, as we'd just spent a good 10-20 minutes trying something that they'd already found a way to fix. We carried on our way, where we stumbled into a mutant, the jeep had spun out on the corner and the mutant was running down on it. My friend threw the jeep into reverse to back away from the viscous creature, I (being the slower vehicle) come "flying" down the road, aiming for the beast. Upon contact, the quad bike shows it's impressive martial arts skill by, instead of simply ramming the mutant with the front of the bike, it decides to drive up the front of the mutant and use the back wheels to kick the mutant in the face, then land back on all fours, I turn around, the mutant lies dead on the road. My friend and I remain quiet for a couple more seconds, then laughter takes us. We carried on our trip but decided to swap vehicles, as I'd never driven the jeep and he the quad bike. We near our base, going over the mountains, he flips the bike onto its side again. Not to worry, we know the solution for this. He steps off the bike. The bike dislikes this, and slides into him...INSTA-KILL! Bike 1, Humans 0. I of course begin laughing whilst my friend begins to stumble his ♥♥♥♥♥ way back to his corpse.

All in all, when you can get onto the game...It's awesome, we both love it! It's a shame that it's very difficult and a flip of the coin as to whether we are actually going to be playing within the next hour or so. In fact, I'm writing this whilst I re-install the game (in an attempt to fix the problem)
