Game delivers..time and time again. Whether you are managing multiple characters or just one, the challenge is there. I'd suggest running the campaign a few times before going for roguelike. I personally find roguelike with a single character addictive and rewarding, however it pays to be familiar with the game's fortunes and abilities already when trying it. Extremely well balanced. Every class has its strengths and yet it is quite rewarding to branch off into other class trees, but not entirely necessary, especially when you have multiple characters. But don't let that fool you into thinking this game is any easier with more characters...you can expect to be up against more enemies and more powerful enemies with a larger group. Your characters can focus on nuking, tanking, healing, kiting, disabling...or a combination of any of these. Regardless, the challenge will be present. I've had straightforward class builds make it farther in my solo runs than more balanced characters before and also had them crushed by the first boss in roguelike and campaign modes. There is some luck, but its mostly a learning curve.
All character stats have some merit regardless of class.

Might: Armour and damage
Dexterity: Critical hit chance and critical damage
Vitality: Hit points
Intelligence: Mana points and skill range
Reflex: Dodging and counterattacks

(summons benefit from every stat except vitality, their health scales off intelligence)

It's a great game, I'd recommend it to anyone that loves turn based rpgs, roguelikes or mmorpgs. I say mmorpgs because the game has a definite feel of progression and need to level up, get better gear, and better skills. It's not too grindy, but sometimes you need to revisit completed zones to get better gear in campaign mode, but its not to the point of being tedious. Even if you stumble across a seemingly unbeatable boss, every time you go somewhere new, the bosses shuffle about. You are gonna need to beat most of them eventually, but sometimes its pretty hard to beat a certain boss with a particular party, so the game gives a bit of wiggle room for that. Most bosses will seem unfair the first time you fight them..just like a mmorpg. Good learning curves and strategy in this game.

This game is well worth playing already (15-20hrs main story, more if you sidequest) and the developers are doing an excellent job at implementing new content and tweaking game mechanics for balance based off a good combination feedback and their own knowledge of the subtler impacts of balance changes. I basically want this Studio to make good money off this so they can continue to support it and make new games. This game should not be missed by anyone even remotely interested in the FF Tactics genre. I like the art and character growth and there are a ton of character classes. Even when this game stops getting support, you will still be able to tweak it the way you want with various settings to damage skill ups and so on through the game's Game Options text file. Go buy. I have tried it briefly but I'm waiting a little bit longer to dive in while a few effects get polished up, and I expect that will happen shortly.

Game still has no manual and it is a stat driven game. How are your supposed to strategize when almost everything is a guess?

Forum is now silent as almost everyone gave up on developer to deliver on promises.

Truly looks like it would be a fun game but I'm not investing a time sink into an incomplete game - because thats what it is.

Some of the skills don't even work and other elements have been left not implemented

No issues here. I think this game might have got a bad rep because people didn't know it was rpgmaker.

It's a nicely done dungeon crawler in my opinion so far. I haven't encountered stuttering anywhere near what other people have..i play on fullscreen with autodash off on an old rig. Game runs fairly smootly, grind and loot is decent.

I'd say pick it up since it is on sale atm. At full price it is asking a bit much for rpgmaker game but I'm quite enjoying it.

Scratching the dungeon grind itch that many games have failed to do. Game provides a challenge if you try to progress too early.

12 classes to choose from, you pick your first start off with rnough money to recruit one more As you progress (at your time of choosing), you can recruit more for an increasingly steep price up to a maximum of 5 in the party total. I like the freedom in this. There are front row/back row mechanics to keep squishy classes form dying too easily and the skills seem decent and balanced so far.

Edit: Only real gripe is multiclassing. It seems heavily encouraged as the game will keep track of how many levels each character has in any class and it can be changed at any time however...
There is only one sprite per class (some classes are males and others are females) so your level 10 fighter "Dave" that multiclasses into an archer is suddenly a woman.
I currently have 4 in my party now and I have no desire to multiclass with this system. If I do another playthrough I will try other classes then. At level 11 my fighter has several active abilities he can use, and i feel no need to "add" to him.
Current verdict on this: Game would have been better without multiclassing imo.

I got this game for just over $2. Zero regrets.

This is a great game with a lot of promise. I have been routinely tracking progress on the game and it is constant and a lot of content is being added to flesh the game out. However i haven't played too much in a while since i don't want to spoil it for myself. Its a squad combat turn based rpg with a few tricks up its sleeve.

Starcrawlers has all the things we like in rgps:

Character creation
Varied loot
Solid combat
Variety in skill trees
New game+ and hardcore(?) modes
YOU get to choose what quests you do and what factions you support
Randomized maps for replay value

There are tank/damager/support roles for to fill out your team but the game is flexible enough for you to make your own way to succeed since you still get a lot of influence on how your team plays in combat through equipment alone.

Last i checked it was due for full release in spring/late spring of 2017 due to added content since the game is doing well. I expect it will be supported well after release as well so this seems like a solid investment to fans of the genre.

Content spoonfed to keep the game in Early Access as long as possible so they can make more money. Don't be fooled by this abuse of the EA system. Avoid until it is completed, or better yet, avoid entirely to send a message this is basically fraud. I had high hopes for this game but the developers have maintained their "we working hard and be patient" shenanigans to no end. So much so that they locked and pinned a thread created about lack of release and completion to try and keep the complaints down. I've supported plenty of games through EA and am well aware of what constitutes legitimate progress and what is a sham and this unfortunately is the latter of the two. Could not be more disappointed.

This is outdated crap. do not be fooled by good reviews. I could go on and on but I'll keep it simple. Bad animations, bad sound, bad ai, clunky ui. Add all these things up and you have a game that doesnt age well. I was completely uninterested after 5 minutes and this is my preferred genre of game. Also notice that most of the negative reviews come from people that actually have a lot of games on their account to compare it too. Stay away.

Haven't played it much from steam since i already have another highly modded version of it but wanted to support it all the same since i have, in fact, spent countless hours playing it.

Still, hands down the best old-school rpg's of its kind. The character customization, combat, magic system and difficulty set this game apart from most others and it has some pretty solid music tracks to set stage for epic battles. A multitude of races that all have their unique strengths and weaknesses along with a great selection of classes that all rely on seven primary attributes (strength, intelligence, willpower, endurance, dexterity, speed and senses) which somehow all manage to be relevant at least in some way to every class.

One of my favourite things about this game is that you can make up a party of 6 adventurers from scratch and by the time you are done, they all have personality. One thing of note about this game is the amount of lines of voiced dialogue from you party members.In any given battle they will be shouting out about being hurt, landing killing blows or getting poisoned and the like that really immerse the player in what is going on in the battle, all the while doing so in the personality of the voiceset you picked. While this may not seem new, the sheer amount of things they will comment on gives enough variety so it always seems to add to the situation instead of being repetative annoying drivel. MANY games have attempted to give the freedom of character creation and maintain a level of personality and have failed. This game does not, and considering it has some of the most in-depth of its kind that is fairly amusing.

The only thing about this game that hasn't held up well over time is the greatly outdated first gen 3d graphics and a mediocore story (mostly due to limited interactive npcs). This game is BEGGING for a remake/facelift and someone would stand to make a LOT of cash in doing so.
