Fun, addictive, and watching your landscape turn from a literal trash heap as you personally clean it up, craft and build your way through the different portions currently available is VERY and INCREDIBLY satisfying. I haven't played the other difficulties yet, but first play through during Early Access made me immediately want more. Definitely worth more than it's current Early Access price.

Ultimately; this game is kind of what I imagine a game would be like if Portia and Slime Rancher had a baby; both of which I love: and I'm greatly looking forward to and watching for the rest of the map to open up.

Though the game started out with only about 8 hours of gameplay; the new zones and changes are a huge improvement! Still a little buggy but again -- no where NEAR what I've seen out of other Early access games. For the most part, what bugs I experienced were things like floating trash nodes and minor hit box issues when going across bridges or broken roadways (the tree-bridge in the hills is the biggest one really in that category)

Extremely satisfying to play,
The only early con I can think of; is the lack of another way to clear enemies, or at least large swaths of trash. The drill is fun (again, portia-esque) but I feel like a later game ranged clean bomb or somewhat (maybe end of the hills area or start of peaks idk) akin to the enemy flingers could be very fun and satisfying to play with for huge fields of trash..? The drill starts to feel extremely grindy in those areas...

If I could give a mid-ranged review? I would. The game had and still has a lot of potential and nostalgic feel to it for those of us especially who enjoyed games like Final Fantasy Tactics.

The Crafting and Gathering system is huge; big enough to be it's own thing really. You could almost make a Wakfu version of Stardew Valley out of all the stuff you can craft and the things you have to gather, how and where. For my inner crafter and explorer.. it's great! I love teh fact you can transplant not only plants, but animals and mobs into different areas.. though the current system still gets abused, the way they discourage that abuse is a creative addition to faction gameplay I simply didn't expect.. and still appreciate. Multi-level maps are lots of fun to run around on usually, though there are some drawbacks.

The downside hits when you get into progression through the rest of game. It's slow, really slow after you get through the opening city quest. And I mean this is crawling a mile on your belly through a corn field not knowing what direction you're even supposed to be going, slow. Getting anywhere with dungeons is a pain alone unless they're severely underlevel, or you manage to find a party (good luck with that!) And actual quests are so few and far between on the slow grind, or worth so little that it actually makes it feel slower at times. Combat is fun but difficult solo at times, and the overall health loss when you die doesn't help encourage solo players towards the story or content at all in my opinion. The maps, while fun to explore especially when they become more multi-level? Can be very confusing for that same reason, as the way up to a higher tier of the map or down to a lower one isn't always clear: wasting a lot of your time running in circles only to find out you can't even get to X place from where you're at or without crossing some bridge a zone over.

Don't get me wrong, it's lots of fun if you have one to three people to play with all the time.. but otherwise main progression and catching up if you get behind your group can be really tough. It's incredibly easy to have double the level gathering and crafting, from what you have as a battle class, if that tells you anything. Which, is fine with me at this stage. As I said, that part can be a lot of fun on it's own. Still grindy after a certain level, but fun.

Overall, I do reccomend this game if you like crafting and gathering, or especially if you have a friend (or more than one preferrably) to play it with: but definitely take this into consideration. If you're not up for a grind of any kind, or want to play through the main content on your own sometimes? This probably isn't the game for you past Astrub (the first City.) If you do enjoy crafting, gathering and exploring though? Try it. You can get lost in this game for hours if you do.

So far I love this game. It's addictive as all get out. Starting out even in a creative game (no zombies) to get used to controls, the first thing you realize is how HUGE the map is, with delapidated or burned out towns, camps both military --watch out for land mines!-- and otherwise, stores, farms, houses, lakehouses, mines.. and I don't doubt more: I haven't even explored the snowy north yet. Even just keeping to the greenlands, forest, burned lands, and north and south deserts (yes there's a difference) there's so much land to explore and so many things to do to survive it's almost crazy.

The ability to set your difficulty and remove zombies entirely if you just want to play survival and build-it (which I reccomend highly for brand new players) makes it a very player friendly game, that (on single player and multiplayer modes) can be turned up in difficulty at any time by the server owners as the players get more experience and learn to do (and kill) more things. The only setback playing with friends most of the time, is the fact every player will spawn at a seemingly random place on the HUGE map, making party play a little tougher at teh start, as you have to finish your starter quests and THEN find the rest of your group. If there's zombies out there? That can be challenging for new players having to cross city or town zones with dogs for instance to get to eachother. Another minor problem is the size of the map and the spread of some resources is a little rough. (Clay and wood in the southern desert is hard to find unless you risk taking apart housing.)

+Huge Original Map, lots to explore
+Different zones yield different resources, different challenges in climate survival
+Lots of items to craft, from crafting stations like a forge, workbench and chem station; to basic weapons, guns & armor.
+Decent selection of character models
+Great eerie feel! Even before night 7 (or the multiples of) the ambience and sound effects are well done. Directional sound is great, if sometimes a little too loud when for instance a zombie is across the street or down the hill from your base; but you can tell RIGHT where they are for the most part, which frankly makes it even creepier and adds more tension.
+Great Multiplayer opportunity, a group has a much better chance of being survival ready than a single player, but it's still doable alone if the player uses their head.

-Spawning with friends would be nice, or nearer to them. Sometimes you can waste an entire day or three depending getting to them.
-Some zombie spawns on animal death are still very twiggy; sometimes shooting a pig/deer down you'll attract more than a screamer zombie before you even get it skinned.
-Cookpots can sometimes be a little too rare: a necessity you need just to have drinkable water, basic cooking so you don't sick yourself to death.
-Animals and zombies can get stuck (REALLY dead or not) into trees, rocks, and sometimes even walls: leaving meat in the open to attract others, unavailable to loot, or hard to kill because of said items taking the hit instead of the spawn.
-Levelling sometimes does feel slow (it's always slow on creative in some things but that's expected on those servers as they're mostly crafting and basic survival;) especially after level 8.

Overall definitely worth buying and supporting if you're into survival games. So much to do, and so much to explore.

PS -- The Booby Trap slayed me. Though only once was that literal.. biker zombies man. Biker Zombies!

Freaking Addictive.

If you're not ready to die, don't try this game. But if you're up for a survival game that doesn't HAVE to take hours to enjoy?

This is your buy.

Crank up the beefalo, wolves, spiders and clockwork and go to town if you want an extra challenge.. cause omg, and wow.

PS: Bees are dangerous. Distress, indeed.
