The best historical Total War since Attila, which it surpasses in many ways, and far ahead of where the game launched, even though I enjoyed it then as well.

CA Sofia learned from some of the better innovations of Troy, while offering far more scope than Troy and a vast map to play in with lots of factions and cultures to choose from. For me, at least, it also offered a style of units and armies that is both familiar and foreign with the Bronze Age.

Add to that very configurable campaign settings, interesting stuff like religion, royal traditions and court politics, and now the chance for Crusader Kings-lite dynastic play and alliances, Mesopotamia, Greece and Asia Minor, and you have a truly great game. It has lived up to the promise it showed, and then some.

It has been a long wait. And the length of this wait and radio silence has certainly made people angry, as well as the small price increase to the DLC.

Leaving that aside, though, this is a really, REALLY awesome addition to Warhammer III.

The Dawi Zharr are full of flavour, fun and satisfying to play. Their roster includes great variety, as well as limitations similar to the Tomb Kings. Your armies will most likely start with many greenskin chaff being driven on by a small number of Fire Dwarf overseers, but as the game progresses and you manage and improve your economy (Which is a bit more involved than most other factions, mirroring an industrial production chain. If you liked the Cathay caravans, the Chaos Dwarves also have them) you will get access to more of the units you like, and better new ones. You will get the chance to customize and improve the units you like as well, tailoring your playstyle to your preferences and enemies.

One extra thing that I wanted to highlight that I don't see in many reviews is the visual and sound design for the Chaos Dwarves. Their music is very evocative and atmospheric, and their growled lines in Khazalid are great as well. Their units look awesome and everything from animations to projectiles feels satisfying to watch.

Whether that is worth the extra cost or not is up to you. I have no regrets whatsoever and am having a blast with them.
