Was recommended this game by someone who goes through the steam new releases page daily. They described it to me as, quote, the "Shadow of the Colossus Drakengard Breath of the Wild Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts spiritual successor the world has been clamouring for."

Can't say I was clamoring for that myself, but I'm very much enjoying this so far. The world is stark and beautiful, what I've seen of the setting and presentation is well done, in a paint-around-the-horror's-edges way, the physics are surprisingly rewarding, and it's extremely satisfying to put 10 cannons on your burg and let it rain death while you go hunting.

The overworld could maybe be smaller, but there's important things to find and *checks notes* flying sheep to pop with platforming trickjumps, so..your mileage may vary? My advice would be to keep up a solid pace traveling and not get hung up trying to 100% all the specially-named money boxes (there's a lot of em and they can regenerate), however you do need to look around some.

If you're willing to meet it partway, this game is extremely compelling and unique. I'm not sure where it's going, but it's going there with soul.

BABA is CUTE

this may have become my favorite game of all time

Absolutely one of the best strategy games of the past decade, and also in a genre of its own (I know of no other game like this.. besides AIW 1 ofc). The game starts you off completely outmatched vs an overwhelming AI opponent that has conquered the entire galaxy, but the AI is focused elsewhere & only fielding token forces against you every so often. The crux of gameplay is striking tactically to secure advantages and resources while managing how much attention you draw from the AI. It's a risk/reward mechanic with progressively increasing stakes and I absolutely adore it.

This sequel's execution is significantly better than the 1st as well: the AI opponent is much better in general, & you get to actually make strategic choices with the procedurally generated capturables. Now, you end up building your fleet towards specific goals. That fixes my biggest complaint about the original, which mostly just left you stuck with whatever the game rolled (barring some exceptions).
