This game is great.

It is really different every time you play it, due to a huge combination of variables that are thrown at you.

For starters, there is the ship you choose at the start. After you have played through a few times, you'll have a few ships and maybe a couple of different layouts to choose from. At the moment I have seven different ships with multiple layouts on each, and I still do not have all of the basic ships!

I find each ship layout plays very differently, with varying challenges and advantages.

The gear that you will get as the game progresses has an impact on how your game will go and how you will play it, but the decision is still up to you: Do you buy in the flash gear, or do you upgrade your core systems?

The system map and sector maps, are (of course) another range of randomisation to make each playthough different as well.

The battles themselves can be frantic and exciting, troops transporting back and forth, critical systems needing repair, and the timing of your shots is important too. Deciding what system to target, where you really need power, and if you can spare that crewmember to go and repair that hole in the hull.

The new (and free!) update to the advanced edition added even more ships and layouts, and added just a little bit of polish to an already great game.

So... yeah... kinda good.
