This is not a space sim. This is a more arcade-y trucker simulation, in space.
Controls are more rudimentary than I had maybe hoped, but the core gameplay is exactly what I wanted from the game, and personally, playing with keyboard and mouse works fine.
I do still hope to be able to connect my HOTAS with this game in the future.

Amazing quality, even better story.
The only negative I've noticed is glaringly obvious "hidden load screens" that could have been pulled off better, but that's it.
