engages your brain enough to keep you interested but allows your brain to turn off enough to just vibe and destress. I've waited for this to come out since it was announced years ago and I haven't been disappointed! The music is top tier and the gameplay loop is suuuper satisfying! It's best experienced in Co-op but I still enjoy it just as much solo. The meta progress feels satisfying and while the story may not be super deep, all of the characters are well defined, unique, and charming. Also genuinely in love with the soundtrack and I sometimes hang out in the saloon just to listen to the music <3

The only problem with the co-op is that you have to unlock characters as host or in your own game, but once the character's are unlocked, you can still progress their quests as well as share meta progress when you're not the host. Aside from that, it makes the think of risk of rain before it's 1.0 release where it's still a great game and worth it, but could use a few more characters and a little more content, but those things will be added with time and I expect it to develop in the same way. Either way, for the price, the game is definitely worth it.

Early Access Review
I Highly recommend this for any roguelite fans or anyone who was fans of Curse of the Dead Gods. I've been playing since this was first released on EA and have seen a lot of complaints about the difficulty since the last update. I came back and completed both chapters on my second try (nightmare 1 since it'd been a bit and wanted to shake off rust). It's definitely a bit more difficult than before, especially with the shortened timer per chapter, but this game is still engaging and rewarding so long as you're actually learning and engaging with the mechanics of the game. The devs have said that they're going to make changes to adjust the difficulty in the next update, but for only $20, it's definitely still worth it in it's current state.

For anyone wanting to get into the game or for anyone who'd wanna listen, wanted to give some basic tips to keep in mind that help with consistent and solid runs.

1. when you first load in, the timer doesn't start and you'll get your first upgrade. This also comes with a little game knowledge, but think about which skill you're gonna take and how that'd be able to synergize with other upgrades you'll gain as the game goes on. Also take a look at the map and prioritize the first points you're gonna hit and in what order. A safe priority list for me is usually (from first to last priority) eye - shard - chest - book. Since the timer doesn't start, you'll have as much time to plan as you need. After that, priority changes based on context and what you need to complete your build.

2. constantly search for fast travels on your way between POIs. You can fast travel from anywhere and it helps cut down on travel time so that you can get as many upgrades as possible in as short a period of time as possible.

3. Try to hit the quest before the final day. once there's only 3 - 4 minutes left, you won't have time to complete it and your time will be much better used either going to or discovering more POIs.

4. If you're getting a late start on your build, there's nothing wrong with heading back to the merchant and getting some items to boost your stats. This can help if you just haven't gotten your abilities to synergize yet, but you need just a little more dps or survivability to catch up.

5. Magic mirrors allow you to duplicate and stack a random item and they generally cost 150 shards unless you get the shop discount from book. After I've hit a chest, if I get a good item, this will normally be the first thing I buy at the shop. The less Items you have, the less random the duplication is. Same idea goes for the random trait upgrades you can get from book. The trait upgrades are generally much more cost effective than getting the 150 shards and you can normally level quickly if you're planning what you're doing, so this is almost always what I go with. It's easier to catch up in levels or shards another way than it is to get the trait upgrades as quickly.

6. If you're beginning to run low on time but need to rush to POIs, you don't have to fight the roaming enemies. You also don't have to kill enemies to get the shards from the shard POI, so you can actually just run past the enemies, smash the crystals, then immediately head to the next POI. The Enemies have leashing, so you don't have to worry about them chasing you across the map.

Again, it's a super fun game and I highly recommend it. These are just tips that work for me and there may be better strategies or nuances I haven't learned, but that's also part of the fun. I know that some people aren't as much of a fan of the timer, but I look at it as much more of a gameplay feature rather than a hindrance to the game, much in the same way as the timer in Risk of Rain 1 and 2. Part of the satisfaction comes from the planning, execution, and seeing yourself get more powerful, getting a solid build, then demolishing the boss because you were more prepared than your runs before. Hope this helps!

EDIT: an additional thought is that the game could benefit from a practice mode that either removes or greatly increases the timer to help newer players become more familiar with the game and for other players to build test. Just a thought, but looking forward to more updates!
