I was really looking forward to this after the original but I've been rather disappointed. The storyline (at least early on, but it's dampened my enthusiasm to continue) is heavily interrupted by cut scenes and moving to new areas far too frequently that it essentially feels like you're starting over every few minutes and it's difficult to settle into the gameplay.

Beautiful remaster of the defining RTS games from the 90's. A wonderful nostalgia trip of fast paced, base building / destroying madness.

For someone who hasn't played the series since Disgaea 2 (and a refusal to but a PlayStation purely for these games), this was a little overwhelming to start with as there are so many new features. However, it soon settles into the old pattern that I remember loving so much growing up with the earlier games, with so many enhancements that greatly increase the options in battle style and ways to play. I'm still very early in the story (assuming this follows in a similar length to previous games) but I'm already finding myself addicted to the simple to learn, complex to master play style, even with all the additional features, and the bizarre humour that you can expect from the series. Highly recommend!

Being completely honest, this is NOT the finished article in what RTS fans are looking for these days.

HOWEVER... for those of us that have been repeatedly disappointed with the failure of certain major franchises to deliver anything new in recent years, this is a fun little reminder of what the genre used to be (think Dune/early C&C gameplay with graphics on par with the mid-C&C series). With a little polishing and a few fixes (scrollling at all screen edges would be helpful, and it'd be nice to see an improvement in the story presentation as the comic strips just don't work)

For an indie game (and at a reasonable price), this is quite nicely done and I'd certainly suggest taking the time to have a play! Thank you StormCube for reminding the big players of what they'd forgotten. Hopefully there's development coming to take them on head-to-head in the future, as the genre is crying out for it!
