Updated review for part 2:

****** CONTAINS STORY SPOILERS *********

Well I complained part 1 was too easy... I guess they heard me, sadly they overeacted. The puzzles are no longer intuitive, you need to collect data with 1 character that the other needs... but the characters cant communicate with each other. The story makes several stupid plot twists... what parents raise a child in a cramped environment and pretends to be a computer for the entire childs life??? The male hero has grown up exposed to AI's that cater to his every whim yet he can happily converse with strangers and is sympathetic to feelings. The female hero has turned into a ruthless killing machine. When the major villan is introduced he is glossed over in 1 conversation (most of which is optional). The final puzzles involve switching back and forth rapidly and performing the 2 halves in a plan thats only purpose appears to kill everybody... but the "hero's" cant communicate and therefore anything they do in this situation is quite simply suicidal. You find out this was simply so the ruins can melt into a symbolic 'bridge' thats hinted to in an earlier conversation.

To sum up, graphics are good, story is poor and inconsistent with part 1 and puzzles are frustrating and counter intuitive.

When they dumped spacebase DF-9 I vowed to never pay for another DF game, there is nothing here to make me change my mind.

Original Review:

This is short and too easy. I finished it in about 3 hours and was never stuck for more then 5 mins. It is fun and the story is clever (if not a little to obvious, when the big plot twist is dropped at the end it surprised me not as i had worked out what was happening ages ago). This game wont make you love 'point and click' games so dont buy it unless you allready do love them.

What concerns me is how little there is here, DF had lots of money to make this... and it does not show. Will part 2 be better? I hope so. If you dont own this game I sugest you dont buy it until reviews for part 2 are avaibable.

This game gets a thumbs up, but only because there is no neutral option.

I want to love this game, there is so much potential. Its let down by an appaling interface. You cant pause without giving an order... Whats wrong with the spacebar to pause??? it works for every other game like this. Also why use radial menus? they are for console games. PC games use the mouse and keyboard. List the squad members across the bottom of the screen and place the order buttons for each one above their picture, that way you can see their status and what they have avaibable easily. Every time i play this my squad gets whiped out because i deliver an order to charge forward out of cover by accident. Anything more complex than move and shoot is too complex in the heat of battle... which defeats the point of this game.
