It's great, combat at first felt clunky slow but within a couple hours it clicked and became extremely addictive. World is beautiful and feels alive, pawn system is amazing and full of depth. Story mostly predictable but still has its high points. The current "endgame" mode is very lackluster without going into too much detail. Music is awesome, especially when the big enemies go into their last HP bar. Graphics are mesmerizing.Overall a solid 8.5, -1 for performance and -.5 for the lack of endgame.

Sometimes you stumble upon games on steam and think "oh that might be neat to play for a few hours"... to inevitably get sucked into the game for over 30+hrs. The craziest thing too is I think this game might give me another 30 easily, if not 100 more.

Rune Knights is updated very often, the single developer works on it daily from what I can tell and actively monitors feedback and bugs while implementing those fixes or ideas shortly thereafter.

The game has incredible replayability in the form of higher difficulty missions and gear farming. If you like tinkering with builds, seeing your dps, tank or utility power go up then this is the game for you. It features great build variety and from the few I have tried, it seems everything is viable - especially once you tap into the legendaries in late game which will aid specific playstyles.

Do note you will be doing the same dungeons over and over but in majority of them, they somewhat randomly generated so it keeps things decently fresh and engaging. There is also an infinite arena which is considered the endgame at the moment, and I hear there is a raid being implemented soon as well.

Co-op is seamgless and I've had no issues playing with my gf, players and enemy models are accurate on both screens and there is zero lag.

Honestly, this game does a lot of things right that I wish a lot of other titles with much bigger budgets and development team could do. It has a few shortcomings like its lack of a story, reasonably dated graphics due to the engine and less than ideal immersion. The soundtrack is for the most part mediocre and repetitive. The NPCs look cool but have no personality, meaningful dialogue or voice overs.

Thankfully, these shortcomings can all be improved over time, the core gameplay with enjoyable combat, hard difficulty and farming is all there and it is why I keep launching the game over and over. I really do believe if the developer keeps this pace up, this game will actually go down as one of the best 3rd person hacknslash arpgs on the market.

Is it worth it to buy now though? As of this review it is $9.99 and even though it is still a significant amount of months out until it officially releases, I absolutely think it is a title worth buying right now. And who knows, your idea might even make it into the game and shape its future before release.

Saw the game on new releases, didn't know anything about it or the publisher. Bought the game on a whim because it looked fun. I have never been more surprised by my purchase of a random roguelike, the game is super fun with a lot of replayability and oddly enough, is very optimized for an indie title. Every run is different, the game has so many loot and perk options. The developer is very active in responding to feedback and making changes, they made changes to something I gave feedback on in the first week of the game. Looking forward to the addition of more playable characters and more scrolls in the future. Definitely recommend picking it up for at least 40-50 hours. *Updated as of 6/8/2020

Firstly, I wanna state the positive aspects of the game.

+ Engaging combat where you have to react to enemy attacks through reactive movement.
+ Multiple types of missions aside from campaign, including expeditions, assassinations and hunts.
+ Rewarding content and difficulties - you can earn ALL customization and characters through playing the game. There are ZERO microtransactions as of the time of this review unlike so many people reviewing claim!
+ Eight different classes to pick from each with their own different and unique playstyle.
+ WASD movement lends you a great deal of control for your character. You CAN use your mouse for movement if you wish, just need to tinker with the settings.
+ Great gear progression and crafting feels impactful.
+ Polished art style with a great clean HUD.
+ 2 additional difficulties that really ramp up the difficulty but reward you for playing them.
+ Everything - including material "packs" are purchaseable with in-game currency, in this case, gold.
+ Dailies already implemented as well as great replayability through the various modes and large loot pool.

On to my negatives.

- No current anti-cheat in place as far as I am aware.
- Very little in terms of customization with class skills - minor upgrades of % damage increases and a few ultility based upgrades around skills can be tinkered with but nothing that would change their core usefulness.
- Not a personal negative, but a negative for a lot of people - the game is centered around a HUB world where you take missions directly from (similar to a game like Soulworker or Kurtzpel)
- No co-op at release, pretty self explanatory
- No auto sort inventory - something you get in pretty much every other ARPG but this also seems to be a design choice because the inventory space is small at the moment.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
All in all, the game feels very polished for an early access game. I struggle to find this quality in terms of graphics and gameplay in many other ARPG titles in 2019. If you are looking for a game like Diablo, PoE or Grim Dawn, this game might not fill your needs. This game relies more on personal skill, game awareness reaction, skill shots and much less on set bonuses and deep progression like paragon points or a passive skill tree. The game leaves a lot to be desired for those who like to explore a connected game world. However, it makes up for it in a great fully narrated story and plenty of other small details they put into the game like lore books you can pick up in missions - which give you more insight into the games lore and are also fully narrated! if you are looking for a fresh take on an overplagued genre, I would really recommend this game as it truly surprised me with how much fun it can be.

If you enjoy MHA, you will likely enjoy the game as it holds true to a lot of stuff in the show/manga. The fighting aspect is fun and is comparable to a rock-paper-scissors game. If you pick the right type of attack, you will win the engagement and will be able to get a full combo off, this makes it extremely rewarding to win and extremely unsatisfying to lose. Every character plays differently, the timings and quirks on different characters make for a diverse fight every time. Story mode is fairly short but I did enjoy it to an extent, it would be much better if the AI had better techniques instead of just running away. The real meat is in the online. 8/10 *don't buy if you have an AMD chip until they fix the issue with that*

Kritika is one of those games where you have to experience it for yourself to see if you enjoy or not. I'd say if you're like me and prefer the focus to be on gameplay mechanics and how fun combat is over a good story or quests that make a lot sense then this game is worth your time. If you enjoy games like Diablo and min-maxing your character you will have a blast with this game. However if you prefer a more story-driven game with less RNG aspects then this game will likely not be for you. In the games website there is a devmap for future updates and if they actually bring those out I think this game will be even better.

I've put in 50 hours and have already bought the collectors edition pack, if that does not tell you how addicting this game is nothing will.
