The game feels like a very generic sci-fi shooter, with a lot of questionable narrative choices.

Early Access Review
TLDR: Do not even consider this if you are interested in the multiplayer!

Seeing great potential in a story of seasons-style game with battle pets, I backed this game with a friend a long time ago.

When multiplayer first launched we heeded the warnings about a buggy experience and didn't expect much.
6 Months down the track we tried again, and found that other players and NPCs still didn't exist to the second player most of the time.
Undeterred by the slow development of fundamental multiplayer aspects, we tried again recently, only to discover that no real changes had been made.
We attempted to continue the game by just fighting, only to discover that on top of the other issues we'd experienced before, in multiplayer enemies tend to randomly become unkillable and boss cutscenes tend to cause a myriad of other bugs in multiplayer.

After looking at the recent development cycle of... no updates aside from art and lore posts and the announcement of an upcoming 1.0 'the game is in a finished state' release this year after receiving no updates during the covid crisis, I think it would be a very optimistic person who would say this situation is going to improve.

A very satisfying game to play, with randomly acquired modules encouraging you to change the way you play each time

The best dungeon keeper successor so far by a long shot, it does everything right by the original series including keeping the original narrator himself!

The AI allies in your squad are incapable of doing anything combat related by themselves except for firing their basic weapon, often literally stand still slowly reloading while being killed by basic enemies, making singleplayer in this game essentially one long escort quest with a bunch of clueless NPCs

Early Access Review
A great game which strikes the perfect balance between the intense simulation of dwarf fortress and playability thanks to it's intuitive interface and decent AI. (People actually react to being on fire!)

The movement in this game is quite clunky and frustrating to use compared to any other game of it's type, especially with a pet that constantly roams around you blocking tiles you try to walk into.
There are many other issues listed by other reviews that I won't bother repeating here.

Smugglers V seems like a game which should be listed as "early access" but isn't. This game is missing a fair amount of content including descriptive text on abilities, any of the details on skills and an entire class of ships.

This game is also missing the end-game content so bad luck if you thought you might like to lead your own fleet or do anything cool, the game becomes rather bland after a couple of hours gameplay with all combat being nearly identical with only a slight mixup due to you only being able to use abilities when the RNG decides you can...

To add insult to injury the dev's appear to have decided to release a paid DLC instead of fleshing out the content this game needs so badly and go so far as to ask you to buy it every time you exit the game.

As much as I like this genre of game this was definately not worth the purchase in my mind due to the lack of any warnings besides from other buyers about how this game is still heavily in development even though it already has paid dlc.

This game has had an incredibly poor release on Steam.
There is an abundance of positive reviews from people who have played it previously but so far the game has failed to live up to expectations with crashes and missing maps (No ingame method of downloading maps provided nor any website I could find offering them for download) making connecting to the incredibly limited servers a near impossible task at times. To add insult to injury the few servers also appear to feature "reserved slots" meaning that even if you do sit on auto join and eventually make it in chances are that you will be auto kicked to leave room for somebody who is apparently more important than you.

This game might have been good back when it was new but it is currently only serving as a deterrant to any new players wanting to try it out.

Very pay to win to the point where you pay to skip the progression tree and play against brand new players with basic gear, the endgame gear gives you advantages to the point where you can literally facetank in what is meant to be a tactical cover based shooter. Would not recommend unless you're willing to fork out alot of money.
