This is pretty bad. Weapons have arbitrary restrictions for what directions they can shoot (like the moves of chessfigures). Everything in this game is a bullet sponge. It's never made clear how to get most of the resources beyond buying them or converting them from one to the other.
There is no "easing" into the game, if the first mission in the campaign you pick is one of the easier ones, you will be pitched into battle against 50 aliens swarming towards your 6 men squad. In basically open terrain. No Spacehulk vibes coming from here.
The UI is atrocious. Every interaction requires at least two clicks or a hotkey and a click.

Gripping story. Time pressure combined with resource management make for somewhat challenging gameplay in the beginning. This lets off later though and at that point unskippable animations which play regularly become annoying. Overall, I really enjoyed this game, though towards the end I only played to see all endings.

I played this in the demo during a next fest or something. There where more customization options for the hub ship and character in the demo than the full release game. Way to bait and switch.

This game got bugged to hell in recent updates

Just an Age of Wonders III reskin, play the same game with different looks but cheaper by getting AoW III.

I want this to be fun... but I just can't extract any fun from it.

Obnoxious hard coded hotkeys

Game way too simple. AI opponents are extremely passive and in battles the AI is easily predictable. There's no up to date explanation of ingame mechanics, either in the game or the wiki. Further development seems to have been abandoned.

Nice, relaxed colony sim. Limited resources put a soft cap on time you can spend, logistics are quite involved. It all pays off when you see that red rock become green though.
