Doesn't interact with the core gameplay loop, and fails to add interesting or compelling reasons to explore the new content. Asteroids are barren and tiny, the game doesn't really do a good job in justifying why you need an entirely new type of rocket and buildings to conduct asteroid explorations. It's not entirely horrible, but fairly cramped and a bit of nonsense.

The underground, how ever, is a complete s***show with barely anything unique to offer, and taking away most of your toolbox from the surface to boot.
If this DLC was 5 or maybe 10 dollars it would almost be possible to forgive the puddle deep new content, but at 19.99USD against a game that only costs 29.99USD, it's not worth the asking price. Do not buy this unless you absolutely must own the entire collection.

Literally a waste of money. If you thought Below and Beyond was tacked on and poorly thought out, this takes that a step further with ridiculously restrictive mechanics.

There are better mods on the workshop and if this had been published as workshop content it would never rise to the front page of most popular, the fact that they are asking money for this and not releasing it for free like passages is borderline criminal.

For every good point someone can make about this game, 4 bad points can be brought up. Too much of a grind, servers feel like they are running off dial up half the time, and while some ships are balanced around historical justifications and in game assets, other ships are given extremely out of place buffs or nerfs because thats what the devs think work, submarines only being the latest debacle of 'why is this a thing?'

TL;DR Go play Evil Genius 1 instead.

I tried hard to like this game. I adored the original. I kept telling myself, maybe it picks up when you progress further. Maybe I'm just missing something obvious that will click, it can't just be this right?

Well after 50 hours, I can tell you. This game plays like it's a mobile cookie clicker. Theres no balance to speak of. Resources are hilariously limited, and doing basic missions will wipe out most of you reserves, from cash and gold, to minions and intel. Queue 1-3 hours of waiting for timers on the world map to cycle down so you have the cash and resources to throw it all out once more, and hope the game doesn't decide to send another wave of 'average' agents who kill 5 highly trained Hitmen with assault rifles for everyone of their own that die.

The only thing this game is missing is Microtransactions and in game adds for other products by Rebellion. Just go play EG1 and install the gameplay overhaul mod, much much better experience.

Edit: With many months past to allow the developers to update, fix and sort out the game, they've barely made any QoL fixes (They shut Iris up, who should have been a option to mute entirely) while much of the new content is broken balance wise or literally breaks the game. If the game isn't on a steep sale (50%+) don't buy.

The under appreciated gem of 2018, 2019, 2020 and now 2021. TL;DR This game is well worth the $30USD asking price and if it's on sale at any amount you're a fool not to pick it up if you enjoy co-op shooters.

Left4Dead/Payday style cooperative shooting, with the fully destructible terrain Red Faction has promised and never given to gamers for 20 years running. Procedural generated levels means no two missions will ever be the same, short of the 'Deep Dive' system that intentionally runs players through pre-generated levels. As well as 5 varying levels of difficulty with noticeable difference between each level to provide the perfect experience for groups of varying skill.

Cosmetic Character Customization is surprisingly deep, with beards, hair/helmets, eyebrows and even sideburns and skin textures being unlockable through in game currency, completing challenges and rank unlocked assignments. This even extends to weapon skins and even your pickaxe can be cosmetically customized with a mix and match set of parts you've unlocked.

Mission variance is admirable for a game about digging rocks: Simple mining missions, salvaging operations that previously went sour, extraction missions with specialized onsight refineries for unique minerals, and even liquid extraction missions requiring the players to route their own pipelines as they deem fit (with grinding piperails being one of the best ways to get around!), extermination missions where you must find and destroy a specific set of dangerous enemies, and escort missions where your crew sets out to retrieve a unique heartstone in one of the only 'boss' style encounters in the game.

Each character class plays in a unique style with unlockable alternate primary and secondaries, and their own support tools that help the team navigate missions, avoid dangerous terrain and encounters, and deal with difficult encounters before they can wipe the team out. And you're free to swap between classes between missions, your personal resources shared across classes allowing you to focus on one or delve into all 4 to find what playstyle you prefer or what niche your current team needs to succeed.

Edit: Post Update 35/Holiday Review: Tis the Season and the Dev's continue to prove they aren't payed enough for what they do. More guns, new mission type and holiday themed parties. For free! All the DLCs for this game are strictly cosmetic, you only need buy them because you like the look of the cosmetics, and/or you want to support Ghost Ship. Season event is still going so it's not to late to jump in, catch up and unlock fun cosmetic and extra crafting resources. Why haven't you bought bought Deep Rock Galactic yet?
