Fantastic. Lots of variety, and cool modding scene, too. Love making new characters, trying new builds, and doing shenanigans. QoL stuff is a bit "behind" compared to BG3, but the mechanics are effectively the same. NOT D&D based, though - unique skill/leveling system, but it's fun to play with, too.

D&D in a video game, done right. Lots of post-launch support ain't bad, either.

This game succeeds at a lot of things a good Metroidvania should: strong setting, interesting lore, fun combat mechanics, rewarding exploration, challenging extras, and immersive sound design. I'm a big fan of the Souls games, and the setting for this reminds me a lot of them in a good way. The challenge, too, I would liken to a Souls game. There is certainly an "easier" path, but stray a bit off of that and you can find challenges galore. There's challenging platforming, hidden items, and without saying too much, more lore than meets the eye. Plus, it's all BUGS (and jellyfish for some reason?). Not an entirely unheard of setting, but they do a great job of making a unique insect world. If you like Metroidvania games, eery and immersive lore, great sound design, and fun, challenging combat/platforming, you will like this Hollow Knight. All in all, a very well rounded game.

Less of a review and more of a personal note: I also have to give props to the developers. They've put out 4 DLC for this game for free at this point, and added lots of extra content. The last one, Godmaster, adds huge challenges to people who want them. I wanted them. And geez, did I struggle for that last achievement (Embrace the Void).
