Buggy and dull

Excellent blend of retro style with modern game mechanics

A short and linear experience that left me disappointed.

"Let's take away the bits that got in the way of the player's experience like exploration, treasure, shopping, and upgrading. Now take that doll part of the game and expand on it."

Cultic feels like a spiritual successor to BLOOD with all the modern comforts where you want them without ruining the retro feeling and experience.

Playing solo game with stable internet connection: disconnected from server repeatedly, losing progress and having to restart the mission.

I was in bed sleeping at 2am in the morning and my wife comes in and says "the shop's been uh.... someone ran into the shop" and I said "Uh what" so I jumped out of bed and all I had was me undies on and I've walked out the front and I seen the car smashed and I seen the bloke walking back to the car and so I've walked outside and I said "Uh what are you doing, mate? Like you can't be leaving the scene." and he goes "don't be a hero, mate!" and I said "I'm not trying to be a hero but the police are coming." and he just decided he'd scoot up the road and I just said "Nah it's not going on like that mate" so I jumped in me car and I started chasing him up the road and then he went down a side street and then the police were coming and I flashed them and sent them off in the direction of him but, mate, all I had was me jocks on and I was chasing him up the street and I'm just like...mate.

The poor quality is evident early on in the lack of effort put into fleshing the game out. The environment contains only the bare minimum of interactive features you would need to progress the plots. There are no additional elements or things to find. Later, this lack of effort becomes even more obvious in the way the plot just jumps from one thing to another without ever having closure on or being able to pursue earlier plot elements.

Hedon is a retro FPS done right. The developers have clearly put a lot of time and effort into developing it. As of this review, there are two episodes each with 10 missions. The missions start short but are generally long with some having par times of >1 hour.

Episode 2 really builds on the formula of episode 1 and adds a lot of new features, so make sure you check that out!
