Early Access Review
I would like to preface my review by out-right stating that I absolutely, completely and totally love this game. I will now outline some of the major facets of Deep Rock Galactic that make it such a mervelous feat of video game production in an otherwise standardised and homogenous market:

For starters, the multiplayer/co-op component: I am the type of gamer that enjoys video games with friends. In this regard, DRG is phenomenal. If you're looking for a title to enjoy with your buddies, then look no further. I have myself been searching for something similar to this for not only months, but years. It is a truly excellent time! You're laughing with your friends, you're panicking with your friends, you're getting lost in the caves with your friends, it's fantastic!

Next, the exploration. I was intrigued when I read of a mining/minecraft style component of exploring caverns and grottos, all the while fighting alien bugs. Did you ever see Starship Troopers? Remember those bug caves? Well, this is LITERALLY a simulation of those caves! You're making your own paths, salvaging what ores you can find and carry, lighting up as much as you can, and pushing deeper into a maze of unknown tunnels every step of the way! Absolutely brilliant fun! I should also note that your robot companion feels like a character of his own! The AI is a friend, and surprisingly often do you rely on him to find your friends! He is mans best friend!

This point of exploration leads nicely into the class system - There are four.. Operators, I'll call them. Each is amazingly unique and fantastically fun in their own right. When composing a team, you really want a bit of all worlds owing to the vastly interesting utilities that they all bring to the table. Want to run a Predator-style minigun and make a giant mess? You got it. Want to zipline around like a mad-man and provide a lightsource that illuminates whole sections of the cavern for your team? You got it. Want to play the digging machine that can crush his way through any wall and create paths for your team? You got it. Want to focus on mining and deploy automated combat turrets to protect your team? You got it. It's ALL there. I cannot wait to see how the developers continue to advance them! I should also note that the class upgrade system, where one can utilise the ores they salvage from missions to perfect armor, weapons and equipment, is incredible fun. You're always working towards something, which makes each mission that much more fun - Knowing you're taking the time to mine through every nook and cranny of the caves for the correct ores! Brilliant!

Lastly, I'd like to touch upon the difficulty of the game. Honestly? I feel like a lot of games these days are made difficult for the sake of being difficult. That's to say, developers will just make enemies stronger than they should be, which leads to failure being frustrating and victory feeling somehow unrewarding. It's a drag. DRG shines and does it perfectly right - The enemies have their strengths and weaknesses that you need to handle appropriately, but the game is TOUGH. It is VERY demanding. Resource management is TOUGH. Ammo management is TOUGH. Grenade management is TOUGH. Friendly fire makes it TOUGH. Having several missions completed to extraction, it was not easy getting to the point of finishing missions! Getting lost in these caverns is a challenge. Being overrun is a challenge. Falling off cliffs because you forgot to throw a flare is a challenge. There are a plethora of fun obstacles that make going from A to Z very challenging, but extremely positively rewarding.

This game is a delectable addition to my library, and one I will be enjoying for a long while as it continues to develop! I highly recommand it to anyone looking to enjoy some very good quality co-op time with their buddies, and to anyone looking for a great adventure!
