one of the best games you've never played.

pros:
- unique gritty underwater cyberpunk setting
- 90s industrial techno soundtrack
- silly technobabble
- cheesy story
- over the top voice acting
- tight fps controls
- works on my win 11 machine in widescreen straight out of the box
- heavy action focus, not a submarine sim

cons:
- little variety in ships and equipment, everything is a straight upgrade
- most missions boil down to kill everything that moves
- no checkpoints in missions
- the menu has no mouse support
- the story is quite cliché (mega corps, drugs, ancient evil)
- heavy action focus, not a submarine sim if that's what you're looking for

One step forward, two steps back.
quite a letdown compared to its predecessor.

pros:
- better voice acting
- ships are now sidegrades instead of straight upgrades
- missions have side objectives that reward loot like torpedos and equipment
- weapons feel more distinct from another
- more varied soundtrack
- more mission types
and that's about it i guess

cons:
- the cool underwater cyberpunk setting is completely underutilized
- boring as hell story
- what the ♥♥♥♥ is with the writing of the characters?
- needs a janky hack in order to support widescreen, whereas aquanox 1 worked fine straight out of the box
- only 4 ships
- difficulty varies wildly between missions
- the ui is somehow even worse compared to aquanox 1
- everything is brown and piss yellow instead of the unique blue / green color scheme of aquanox 1
- no sally

your mileage may vary but to me aquanox 1 is the vastly supperior game.

Norman Reedus and the freaky fetus.
typical kojima insanity. if you've played the metal gear solid games, you know what you're getting into. if not, you're in for a wild ride.
10/10

Early Access Review
The foundation is there, but it certainly needs more time in the oven.
here' what we have so far:
1 large map
a couple of dozen guns and a large amount of attachements
very basic ai and only a few mission types
very basic weapon customisation compared to a certain other game with the same premise.
what i miss is some kind of hobo phase where only old guns with barely any attachements are available.
right now you can go from a glock with a couple of mags to a backpack full of assault rifles within 20 minutes.
the game being purely offline and pve only is great. i hope the devs never change that.
the graphics are good. i've read somewhere that a lot of unreal engine store assets are being used. i have no indepth knowledge of the ue store, so i can't comment on that.
the game needs more maps, more gear and much better ai. being able to go prone would be nice as well.
i recommend waiting another year or so before buying, unless you want to support the devs right now.

if you haven't heard of this game by now, you must have lived under a rock.
great gameplay, superb level design and atmosphere and difficulty not for the sake of difficulty.

here have some spoiler-free tips from anon to guide you through your first few hours:
1. Take your time and be prepared and don't be afraid to explore.
2. Your starting class and your starting gear matter much less than you think they do.
3. Mobility is usually more improtant than defense.
4. Dodging is usually more important than blocking.
5. Any melee weapon that's not obviously terrible is more than capable of carrying you through the whole of the game.
6. Stat returns past 40 are diminished.
7. Points in VIT and END are never wasted.
8. Points in RES are always wasted.
9. If you can get them one on one, you can usually handle any enemy.
10. In human form you can summon other players, but are also subject to invasions by other players.
11. Avoid the graveyard near the start of the game.
12. While you're at it, avoid the flooded ruins as well.
13. Upgrading your weapons is more important than upgrading your armor.
14. Poise is useful but will occasionally get you killed.
15. Dung pies can immunize you from Toxic by giving you a milder strain.
16. It is usually worth your while to study your environment.
17. It is usually worth your while to read item descriptions.
18. Covenants have other purposes besides PvP.
19. Always carry a homeward bone.
20. Kill the dogs first.
