The previous game was a park, this is just administrative work. I wish someone told me I could connect the aviaries during the mission they told me to build one.

Tropico 4 is the zenite of the Tropico series. With just the right mix of fun and forced labourcamps, the following Tropico games left behind the seriousness and embraced the "Funny cigar man meme" Sadly i fear that we will never return to mass executions and the deeper society-game that was Tropico 4.

THIS REVIEW IS BASED ON HOTSEAT!

We used two weeks to fight ww2 from Tunisia to Berlin. I endorse this game but i will mention my problems with it.

1: The hotseat function forces you to have a new limited set of abilities on every mission, i found this stranges as it is understandable when you want to tell a story but on the hotseat it only tilts the game unnecesarily towards one player.

2: There are no preparation stage for the defender, only the attacker is allowed to set up his supplies and take stock of his troops before the actual battle, the Axis player must deal with the added handicap of being dealt an innitial attack on top of this "fog of war"

3: There are no built-in way to translate a Axis victory into some benefits on the next map (More units? More supplies? More command points at start of game?)

4: The Allied units can have three attachments while the Axis can only have one!?

5: Allied units often have way more experience and veterancy than one would expect, a unit with 0 XP can't compete against one with 300 XP.

6: The Italians are sadly underused, there are several unique units and attachments that are never seen after the landing at Sicily during operation Husky, i would like to see more Italians in Italy.

That being said "Unity Of Command II" is the only game that offers you the possibility of fighting ww2 in a strictly histoical manner, even if some missions are a bit scripted (Like Wacht am Rhine where the Axis runs out of supplies after X amount of turns even if they don't attack.)

I got over 1000 hours in HOI IV so ♥♥♥♥♥♥ i know what i'm talking about, give it a try i highly advise it.

A Dramatic tale about how bad choices lead to a life of ruin, just walk home. Bonus for the moment when the Chad puts the soyboy in his place.

The game is great. The reason i can't recommend it is because it still needs more "in-depth" content.

Even tho i have 1000 hours in the game there is little actual fun in it, a lot of preparations for a small war or a neverending stalemate if the Axis wins the war. I'll come back and change my review if/when it becomes more demanding but right now i would rather recommend "Hearts of Iron II: Darkest Hour"

Simple as.

Edit: They changed the minimum requirements to Windows 10, literally unplayable.

I will not write long but i will be informative, this game is getting a hard pass from the "gaming media" and that should be good enough reason to buy it. It has been a long time since i felt so immersed in a world as i feel in this historical setting, my only complaint is the lack of in-game musicians but the community does a good job of playing marching music over the VOIP.

There is not much to say other than that i hope you buy three copies dear reader.

What is there to say?

*Opens white monster energy drink*

It's a good game.

Imagine balancing boxes infront of your face while trying to make another person lose his balance while not losing your boxes in the process, that is HLL. Roles are genuine roles that you have to fill and manage, the team that wins is not the team with the most automatic weapons but the team that manages to build a logistics chain with garrisons, repair depots, ammo boxes and resource nodes.

But there is one problem that is not discussed publicly about this game, one that it is delicate even to mention: the "free weekend player" question. It is taboo in this game.
The "freeweekender" is immunized against all dangers: one may call him a scoundrel, parasite, swindler, profiteer, it all runs off him like water off a raincoat. But call him a "Noob" and you will be astonished at how he recoils, how injured he is, how he suddenly shrinks back: “I’ve been found out.”

Let's adress the biggest problem for codbrains

GRAY UNIFORM = GERMAN. GREEN/BROWNISH = AMERICAN.

Honestly use your eyes instead of just shooting at people, humanity has been using uniforms for thousands of years so you should be able to see the difference.

The team with the best officers to carry out this task is most of the time the one who wins the fight, as a team without officer communication dont enjoy things like artillery, airstrikes, tank support, warm socks etc. Each victory feels earned and each defeat is blamed on the people who don't do their job in accordence with their roles.

I reccomend this game but be warned, either you learn what your role is supposed to do or you stay a normal rifleman and follow your SL, there is no need for lone wolves that destory the fun for 49 other players.

Example: Your team needs an AT gun, to get this you first need a "support" class soldier to deploy his supplies at the location where the gun will be placed. Then a AT soldier needs to come to the location and construct the AT gun, then you need two people to man the gun, firing and reloading it - All of this is supported by the engineers who build resource nodes so that said gun has shells to fire at the enemy tanks.

If just ONE link in the chain breaks or worse, pretends that he is not playing a team game. then you will not get that AT gun and your friends will all die because bullets can't damage a tank (Shock, right?)

Lastly if you are still reading this then never drive anything bigger than a light tank alone, you will die and cost your team a huge amount of resources and before you know it there are no more supplies to buy tanks for.

Now this is a good deal, you get the labour camp + some other stuff in this DLC but it's all about that sweet labour camp. Having problems with (Insert political group here)? Why not just arrest the leaders of the faction and work them to death in the Tropican concentration camp?

In all seriousness this camp solves the problem with the prisons releasing the opposition after X years, the only solution before was to shoot them BUT this made their family angry and they might join the opposition, or protest in public or even worse they might join the rebels and take up arms against the ruling government!

NOW with this workcamp you can keep them alive while howering over the execute button incase their family dabbles in political activism :D If only we could expand the camp and make the arrests automatic then it would be perfect.

8/10 DLC.
