Haven is a story, packaged as a game. As a story it's fantastic, well-written, and enjoyable to experience. It's the game part were Haven falls somewhat flat. The game is very short, the world is very small, and it feels like it's entirely on rails the whole time.

The combat is innovative, but once you figure out 'the way to win' against a particular enemy, it rapidly becomes dull and repetitive. Also, it's incredibly difficult to die. But don't worry, if you do there's absolutely no penalty for that - you wake up back at your ship, heal up, and try again.

I'd say that overall Haven is the kind of game you play once, then never pick up again. Worth it on a half-price sale? Absolutely. Worth it at the full asking price? Only if you're in it for the visuals and the story, because the gameplay isn't the main draw here.

9/10 as a cinematic novel, but 4/10 as a game.
