its a fine story with good art and a tedious / boring combat system that thinks difficulty is about forcing poor team composition

watch it on youtube for a much better experience then playing through this slog of a game

I really want to like this game, i am about 60% complete from what i can tell and I plan on finishing it but i wish i had never made this purchase. The main story line is somewhat interesting and I keep wanting to make it to the end to see what happens but the game keeps getting in the way of itself by forcing the completion "side quests" that pull attention away primary plot lines. The leveling system is really unsatisfying. There are only three combat skills, swords/axes/magic. Swords and axes are essentially the same thing, and your abilities only progress in that the number get larger for attacking enemies with larger number. Abilities dont change, combat and casting actions dont change, monsters dont change. Except for the bosses there are only a handfull of different baddies. Humans with guns/swords, and 5 or so different kinds of animals. Of my 22 hours, i stopped engaging in combat after about the first 10, even the bosses aren't hard to kill, "dash, attack, dash, attack, drink a potion, dash, attack, etc."For the non combat side of leveling points are painfully slow to gain and you will come to conversations or obstacles where you just have to walk away if you dont have the appropriate number of points in a skill, no option to try (and maybe fail), no option to try something else, or go around, just a "you skill isnt high enough" message. The vast majority of quests have turned into "walk to A to talk to someone, walk to B to gather something, walk back to A to report in, Walk to C to talk to another someone, then to B to convince them to do something, then back to A to report in again, etc.". All without a convenient fast travel you the game play experience is essentially "hold W" and skip the first half of every discussion where you introduce yourself over and over again. There are also a series of frustrating ... bugs? or just lazy programing? that i have run across where quests dont show up, NPC's get stuck on pathing while they are supposed to be leading you to an objective, allies get locked in your party with no way to remove them. This game had so much potential but in the end isn't worth the frustration or the plain boring game play.TLDR: a game that advertises itself as a RPG but is, in fact, a buggy walking simulator.
