I am sorry that I have to write this negative review. I really don't enjoy dumping on indie games clearly made with ambition and dedication, but I think that constructive criticism might help the developers return to the right path.

I a disappointed because found sequel of this game, Deliver Us the Moon a brilliant little sci-fi masterpiece. Unfortunately, the creators decided to change up the formula for the sequel. And the result is a frustrating and sentimental experience that is barely a video game.

My main problems can be summarized as such:

1. There is very little gameplay and a lot of cheesy cutscenes. While the prequel took place entirely in first person, and the player retained control of the character almost all of the time, in the sequel, there are incredibly long cutscenes and you feel that control is taken away from you all the time. And most of those cutscenes are boring, sentimental and stale, especially the (many, many, many…) flashbacks.

2. In between the tacky cutscenes, there are basically two gameplay mechanics for the entire game: climbing, which is tedious and frustrating, and “STREAME” puzzles, which are fun at the beginning, but repetitive and trivial by the end. Not to mentions some of the little hickups and awkward animations that the player also has to contend with. And one occasion, when the game doesn't care to tell you that you need to use a completely new, unexplained mechanic.

3. The story: the main problem is that instead of a thoughtful sci-fi detective story, we get a corny, kitch and clichéd family (melo)drama with incredibly preachy social messaging, full of unsympathetic characters (seriously, if Sarah is such an a-hole, I now really find sorry for Rolf to have died for her…). The Outward colonists are all psychos, including Isaac, of course. Ryan might be the only non-annoying character in this game.

All in all, it was a corny and preachy interactive movie with short bursts of mostly annoying and repetitive gameplay. Guys, you didn’t have to reinvent the wheel – next time, just stick to what works.

DOOM Eternal is a the thinking person's shooter game. It's different from DOOM 2016, which might be offputting for players jumping in fron the predecessor, but it's worth hanging on beyond the first few difficult hours. Once you start mastering all your tools at your disposal (weapon with specific mods for specific enemies, two types of grenades, flame belch, blood punch and the chainsaw), the game becomes this wonderful coreography of mayhem and destruction, which is incredibly satisfying.
