Early Access Review
This is a solid early access survival game, but that's been the case for years now. I go back to it maybe once every 10-12 months because it's pretty and easy to spend some time in, but I haven't found any real goal to work towards. I'd like to explore the world more, but I spend most of my time worrying about thirst and hunger. Also, traveling between islands is very time consuming. My 2019 session ended today because the life raft flipped over and the game wouldn't let me stop sitting in it, so I drowned. I'd say it's definitely worth it for fans of the genre, but don't expect something close to a finished product.

2022 Update: I'm pretty good at this game nowadays. I've made significant progress several times in the past few years before abandoning my save and waiting for the next update. Not today, though. Just after the notification that I'd reached my tenth day of survival, I decided to explore the shipwrecks around my newest island. Once I collected all the first ship had to offer, I attempted to exit through the ship's hatch with about 60% of my oxygen remaining. Unfortunately, the doorway that had granted me access to this ships scraps had somehow been sealed with an invisible forcefield. No matter what angle I tried to swim through the wide open door, there would be no egress. My poor stranded survivor ran out of air and ragdolled into the ceiling of the sunken ship, suddenly incredibly buoyant in death. I was then told I had actually only survived for four days, despite being very sure I had just seen the notification for day 10. I'm bad at saving often, so I'm guessing it was using the in game day of my most recent save, even though that seems stupid. Anyway, I kinda wanna change my recommendation due to the long development and insane jank, but I've still had way too many cool moments in this game to say you shouldn't play it.

Don't be fooled by the tags. This is probably not the type of experience you usually hope for with first person puzzle games. This is a first-person setting for many, many 2D line drawing puzzles. The gameplay consists of solving these puzzles and mostly aimless wandering to find the next line drawing puzzle that you actually know the rules for. Once that realization set in, I became less interested in "exploring" to figure out those rules. I've always considered this method of extending gameplay to be cheap or lazy. Had the path been a little bit more intuitive, I probably would have stuck with it long enough to see the story, but I couldn't muster up the interest. If I did more research, I would have avoided paying even the 12 bucks for the bundle this came in. The environment is pretty in it's own stylized way, but I'd rather it be used for an actual game. Huge disappointment for me, but I guess some people dig it.
