The game is fun, until you have played enough and realize the game play rotates around the same 4 environments and about 6 or so layouts. it touts a player based event system that involves the players involvement in what happens in the universe. This is misleading in that it is just a tug of war that never moves anywhere. We have made no progress towards completing an faction war since the games release. Sadly you learn very quickly that you are wasting time.

Early Access Review
So there is valid points in both the negative and positive reviews. Let's start with the the positive. The game is free to play. It is exactly that. There is no rush for card acquisition other than what you put into it. The starter experience ensures new players do not get Giga-pwned. For the first two collection pools you will only face players with the same access to those cards in pool 1 and 2 of the card collection. That means up to collection level 500 you will only see decks with the same access to cards that you have unless you truly push highly into the ranked play. This means you can take your time and level slowly and collect resources or you can push like a madman and get to a collection level of 500 and push into Pool three. Getting to pool three is going to unlock another whole level of customization with your deck.

The problem people have is that they want to play every deck type and expect to unlock the cards quickly when they hit 500 and that is not the case. They give you a spread of random cards and you may or may not luck out. They added a pick your own pool three card monthly for players to help build acquisition for players and get them what they want for whatever deck they like playing. They recently changed how collectors boxes work as well adding in spotlight caches that truly help new players acquire pool 4 and 5 cards quickly and controlled ( on average using collection levels you unlock about 1 spotlight cache a week). What that system does however is that it hampers long term players who have only the need to buy the latest released cards by forcing them to trust to and 1 in 4 chance of getting the newest card per spotlight cache used for that week. That is where the bad truly comes in. Those long term players then have to rely on a token system to ensure those drops and that is where the game gouges the ever living hell out of players wallets. Those tokens have been so greatly reduced that the only meaningful way to get them is to buy them via the "special sales" in the shops. The prices for the best value tend to hang out around 75- 100 dollars to get the most bang for your buck.

I will end saying this. The game play and card interaction is awesome. The games are quick and the deck variety is plentiful. The Devs do work with feedback but often feel slow with the economy fixes which is a sore sticking point for long time players. Play the game, it is free. Try it and play at your own pace. You will find yourself downloading it to your phone so you can play on the toilet.

PS. I often play on my phone and probably have logged 400+ hours alone there. The biggest downside to the economy is for the whales who have almost everything already. Their need to have access to every card is the reason why they have such a negative view on the economy and I can't say they are wrong. It does little to nothing to reward their loyalty and time. However new/casual/non-completionists reap the greatest of rewards because the game constantly offers something they don't have weekly. The only race in the game is the one you set for yourself.

This game is dead if you are looking for a multiplayer experience. Literally a wasteland of waiting. I cannot emphasize this enough....multiplayer is dead. You can still play solo and utilize the bots but the game play loop is repetitively boring with boring gearing that somehow utilize the worst aspects of destiny 2s light levels and gearing.

The game play is smooth with transition from melee to gun play. The classes are easy to step into with the exception of the psyker. With that being said the psyker grows into his own after you get him leveled up. Graphics are beautiful and the music is immersive.

The recent update to the skill trees and the addition of global crossplay with xbox has added new life to the game. Honestly with the skill tree changes it has made the game a joy to play and no two matches are ever the same.

Instruction is limited and you will make a ton of errors purchasing if you do not take extensive time to research. The company has made several poor decisions leading to so many apologies and half arsed excuses that walking away even with a sizable investment in the game was the best choice.

The game is fun and plays like a warhammer version of hearthstone ( that is a good thing). The downside for the f2p players is the slow rate in which you get new cards. If you do plan on supporting the devs and the game please do your research and check the play style of the different warlords and armies and know what sets you need to buy from/focus your purchasing from. Luckily/unluckily each expansion has 3 factions. If you heavy focus one expansion you pretty much are going to unlock the other two factions in the packs as well.

They state each pack comes with 5 cards one of which is a rare. Essentially the "rare" drop if green is truly only uncommon, 1:1 chance of getting a green. Orange cards can be considered rare 1:5 to 10 chance. Yellow cards can be considered ultra rare(legendary)1:20 chance. This is from the purchased "packs". There are different flavor of chests as well that have increased drop rates but are earned from events. (update on these odds: the game will default you a legendary pack automatically on crate 30 however recently i noticed the 1:20 chance is not accurate I haven't had one that early in forever and they are dropping in more of the near thirty range of 28-30 which sucks hardcore for competitive play. Many of the factions require the legendary cards for higher rank play in order to do well and gimping getting those cards pointless in a game with no trading. They need a crafting system to remove the randomization and frustration of constantly getting useless legendary cards. In my experience of crate openings I needed one specific card and ended up getting 8 of the same legendary in a row...The positive side to this is that the devs are responsive to issues like that where the odds are wonky and did assist in getting the needed cards.)

You can build decks using only common and uncommon cards and still do well but the built out "meta" decks fair much better in competitive play. Overall the experience is fun if you like the warhammer 40 k universe and it offers a good time. Most games will run 3-10 mins in length. Just remember some legions were known to siege and drag things out.

Slight update: I keep seeing pay to win down votes and have to laugh. Everything can be earned by playing. Weekly event runs once you save up tickets through dailies can be done ten crates at a time and if you complete a 12 run win you are refunded everyone of those tickets. IT DOES NOT REQUIRE ANYTHING FROM YOUR COLLECTION. Events use a pre-constructed draft method so no cards needed from you
